Advice about Father Involvement with hurting anyone's feelings

Rachel, on June 10, 2015 at 4:09 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 32

So I'm in a really unique situation with my father. I didn't meet him until a couple of years ago. To make a long story short, we are as close we could be for only knowing eachother a short time, but we are still in the "getting to know each other" phase.

I'll be honest I am not thoroughly convinced that I want him to walk me down the aisle or even do a father daughter dance- not because I don't love him, I'm just not close with him and we are still getting to know each other, but I'm sure he would be kind of hurt if he didn't experience those things with me.

Any idea of how to incorporate my father in another way to make him be part of it, while experiencing the "big" moments of my wedding with the people who have been special to me all my life?

You still have over a year. You may be really close to him by the time your wedding comes around. Do you not want him to walk you down the aisle or have the father/daughter dance because you have someone else in mind (brother, stepdad, uncle, etc)? I wouldn't rush it and maybe see what happens in a few months.

But if you don't want him involved in those ways maybe a reading or usher?

Ummmmm excuse me? I'm sorry if I'm excited to be getting married and thought that maybe the people on this website could help me since they are probably experiencing some of the things I am.

I didn't realize there was a maximum quota here.

Or may be you can just keep on scrolling if you don't want to read what my threads.

I understand. You're excited. I get it. You have just under 18 months to start thinking about these things. Why not observe, offer commentary, and think about all this for some time? People are more likely to answer you when they have a sense of community with you versus someone who uses the board to ask on every single thing that crosses her mind.

Janeen hit it on the head, Rachel. Stick around for a while and we'll be happy to get to know you. Smiley smile There's really a great community here and it would be cool to have you become part of it.

Rachel, let me put this in perspective. Say, I send you an email with a question. Then ten minutes later I email you again, a different question. This repeats as new questions pop into my head. Wouldn't it be slightly frustrating to you?

None of your questions are time sensitive. Either group them, or write them down to ask later. We are all excited for our weddings, but you are essentially throwing a lot of questions at us at once!

I understand. I guess I didn't really introduce myself or anything before just posting, I actually think its pretty cool that you try to get to know a little about one another and I'm excited to know more about you all as well.

I wish that last few comments would have been what I read first and not the one that just told me to stop posting so many threads which I guess I took the wrong way.

My apologies for sounding scatterbrained and uninterested in other people's threads- I have been reading other threads and have learned quite a bit.

Don't take anything I say seriously.

Did you introduce yourself? If so, link it.

Oh and @Mrs.K has pregnancy hormones that has made her extra sassy. Tread carefully with her.

And this comment and my previous one are obviously said with love.

I was sassy before, now I'm just hormonal and sassy, which can be a lethal combination. Either way, welcome and yes...tread lightly. As long as you don't ask any questions about cash bars, dollar dances, or self-catered food, you should be fine. Oh yea, and don't ever under any circumstance start a thread with, "Is this tacky," or you will get eaten alive. That is all. Plan on!
