A bridesmaid dropped out and I was estactic!!

Kathryn, on June 2, 2014 at 11:50 AM Posted in Planning 0 7

Sunday I get a missed call/text from one of my bridesmaids that I haven't spoken to since January. She is the textbook definition of an awkward hermit homebody. I went to school with her where we became friends, but soon realized that after we graduated from school and after I asked her to be a bridesmaid, we had absolutely nothing in common. She's a sweet girl, but we are just polar opposites. I really wanted to "give her an out" to be out of the wedding party, but I just couldn't bring myself to do it, even with how "nice" I was putting it. Well I call her back and within 10 seconds of "Hey! Hows it going?" she tells me that she no loner wants to be in the wedding because she is uncomfortable being in front of people. I was sad yet really relieved, and I promised her we would get lunch some time next week and catch up. We will see if that really happens. FH and decided to add an extra to both sides, so I can add my 2 really good friends! We now have 6 GM and BM! Now I'm super happy!!

I know that feeling! One of my bms lives far away and we never talk anymore I'm kinda surprised she hasn't dropped out

I know, I got really lucky! I will always say to take a few moments and really think about the personalities of your possible BMs before you ask. I got engaged while we were still in school (and therefore friends) and she was the first person I asked. Once we finished school, she completely disappeared. Then I got super close with the 2 new bridesmaids (we were bridesmaids together for another girl) and I always told them that if a bridesmaid dropped out, that they would automatically be picked! We all secretly hoped for it, and it came true! They were so excited and happy to be included!!

Glad it all worked out for you! We have one groomsman who is kind of a flake ... so we're thinking of asking another good friend who we see regularly if he could be back up in case the flake actually fails to show up to the wedding or something. You never know --- the flake made plans with us this weekend and didn't show up!!
