£200 per head, but no taste test?

Katie, on March 30, 2017 at 9:44 AM Posted in Planning 0 25

I have to say I am disappointed.

We are spending £8,000 on food for the wedding. Our wedding is a destination wedding btw. But, we are going to Italy in 2 weeks, staying in our wedding venue, for a mini-break before the wedding.

So, I email our wedding planner and ask if it's possible to have a taste test, and she said that as it's April, they are too busy to provide this to us.

I dunno, I am a customer, we've paid a lot of money. I feel really let down. Am I being unreasonable?

I'd be upset, is there anything in your contract about tasting?

That is nuts. I'd be upset too. Do they have a restaurant where you can at least taste the quality of the cooking?

I would definitely be upset about this. It's understandable if you can't taste food for a destination wedding, but the fact that you'll be there before on vacation, they should accommodate that. I would respond back explaining how important it is to you and since you're spending so much for such an important day and you are traveling there willingly beforehand, you'd really like them to provide a tasting.

This is what my wedding planner said to me, when I asked her back in May 2016:

    My question:

"I will send over the picture of what I want along with the fillings. Will we be able to come over for a taste test? Not sure if that's something the Villa provides or not. "

    Her response:

"The villa also provide a menu tasting before the wedding, the menu tastings are usually the spring just before the wedding. You are able to choose a few choices before you come over and try them before you decide on your menu. It's a really nice thing to do if you are planning on coming back over before the wedding."

So she previously told you that they would be able to provide a menu tasting? And now she's saying the opposite?

Also, your wedding sounds amazing! Where in Italy are you getting married?

I would remind her of what she originally told you and ask that she honor the service

Uhhh, yeah, if she said back then you can have a tasting - in spring no less - than remind her of that.

CMC - getting married in Villa Teodolinda, Lake Como Smiley smile Its gorgeous.

We fell in love with Lake Como 6 years ago and I said to OH that if we EVER got married it would be there. I wouldn't even care if it was just OH and I alone, but thankfully 50 of our friends and family are also coming Smiley smile We have the villa Friday - Sunday Smiley smile I just can't wait. 4months and counting!

I don't want to fall out with our wedding planner, but I think that we might Smiley sad

Wedding planner is saying that it's the venue that don't want to provide the taste test. I guess she can't force them, but it is ridiculous.

That sounds absolutely beautiful! I cannot wait to see your BAM!

As for the taste test, they don't want to do it even though she told you that it's a service they provide? I would push a little more about that, you're spending a lot of money there.

I will defintiely share Smiley smile

    How about this

"Hi, I am quite disappointed that we are unable to attend a taste test when we will be in the area anyway, especially as we had expected this from the email you sent me in May last year stating that taste testing was possible in the Spring before our weddings. Is there any way you can push the venue for this?"

I would require that they provide a taste test. You are spending loads on catering. They can take the time to prepare a meal or two for the two of you prior to your wedding.

I'm not spending that much on my entire wedding. I'd be pissed with no taste test!!!

I would send what you wrote and include her previous email stating you can taste. I might mention something like "I understand it's not your fault and the venue is the one saying we can't, so can you please give me the contact information of a manager I can speak with about this? This is unacceptable considering we are paying a significant amount for something that we were told would be included."

I personally would want to talk to someone higher up and be direct.

Also, I realize you have your heart (and finances) set on getting married there, but it *might* be helpful to say if they don't follow through with something they said would be included (was this in a contract?), that you might look elsewhere to ensure you love the catering that will be provided for your wedding day. Is the balance already paid?

My venue doesn't offer tastings either. They do have a restaurant though. Does the venue have good food reviews? You may just have to trust that the food will be good. I'm sorry.

Love Lake Como by the way!! That is going to be a stunning backdrop!
