Disaster Alterations

Lisa, on February 23, 2021 at 8:17 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 13
I got my dress altered. I had to have it taken in and wanted cups added. I got it back and I hate it. I feel like she ruin my dress. I didn’t feel the same in it. I want to get opinions. To me like she just folded the fabric on the side and sewed together. Which created big clumped line down my side. The cups protrude out the sides and in the middle. I would have to use tape everywhere to keep it down and from showing. Am I going crazy? **look comments I show you before and now after full view**

I think you look amazing!! I don’t notice any clumping down the side at all. What you might be feeling is a larger seam allowance on the inside from her taking it in. As far as the cups, you can ask her to secure it more and maybe do a slight adjustment under the armhole so you don’t see the cup coming out the side. I’m a seamstress btw so I know bad quality work when I see it lol But I honestly think she did a great job and you look great as well

I agree with Kelly, you look absolutely amazing! I’m not a seamstress so I like the ideas that she suggested, and think that’ll help with your concerns. But, looking at the pictures I think the dress is beautiful on you.

You look absolutely gorgeous in your dress! I didn’t notice any clumping down the sides. Like Kelly suggested, ask her about the bra cups.

You look gorgeous and the dress looks great to me! I would never be able to tell if there is any clumping. I would imagine she made the seams thicker because she was trying to preserve the integrity of the design. I am not a seamstress, but I like Kelly's suggestion about fixing the cup!

Thank you. I just want everything to be perfect. I spent a lot on my dress and love it to death just want to make sure I look good on that day and feel good on that day. I will address the cup issue on Saturday when we pick up one of the bridesmaid dresses.

I actually can’t see the issue you’re describing.

I understand! Wedding dresses are definitely a large investment so it needs to be nothing less that perfect. Hoping they can make any minor adjustments so you’re 100% satisfied Smiley smile

The cups might be too big. You could ask her to remove the cups and replace them with smaller ones, or you could ask her to trim the cups so they don't stick out from the sides. Really, the cups should be sewn inside the lining, not just tacked to the inside of the dress, but many seamstresses take that shortcut because it's less work for them. Either way, make sure the cups are the right size for your body. When I had my dress altered, the seamstress put in B cups, but that made me look top heavy (I'm a small person and rather flat chested). So I had her replace them with A cups, which looks much better!

I never even thought of that. The white cups already came with dress since it was little sheer and they already snap in out but instead of snapping them in or our she sewed them to the dress. The extra cups was recommend by the place i bought the dress and she sewed them directly on top of the already built in cups that came with dress. I think it made me look flat chested even more like that. I am very small chested as well. I was even thinking of her taking the second set of cups **nude** out and keep built in ones and just get the tape on cups.

If the dress already has built-in cups, you may not need another set of cups sewn in. If your bust is small, you likely don't need the extra support. I would have her remove the cups she added and just keep the cups that came with the dress. If that leaves you with extra room in the bust, then you can have the bust taken in to fit your body.

I don't notice any clumping but do see the cups peeking out the sides and that would bother me too. Additionally, I'm not sure how you feel about the push-up cups used. I feel like my boobs are proportional to me and feel like push-up cups make me look cartoonish. You can definitely see the increased volume in the after alterations shot and it's just a matter of what you like and feel comfortable with. If the cups used are not the right size it will impact the way your dress looks, fits, and feels. Note that seamstress cup sizes aren't the same as bra cup sizes. For example if you have a small band size and large cup size (say 32D) you might actually only be a B or C cup in seamstress cup sizes because the seamstress cups are measured by overall size whereas with your bra the band and cup size are proportional (for example a bra size 34C has sister sizes of 32D or 36B).
