Disappointed

Summer, on October 7, 2019 at 11:23 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 15
Well thanks to mother nature we don't get to have the wedding we have been wanting. If it wasn't for the fact that people have non refundable booked flights and others got special time off work (like my sister who is in the military and they even let her have time off of drill for it) we would of just canceled it all together and changed the date. If the weather stays how it says it's going to we don't get to have a reception 😥

I don't think I understand why you can't have a reception. I get you might have wanted an outdoor event but can you get a tent? Is there an indoor option at your venue?

The venue we were planning on using was my FMILs house, the cheapest we can rent a tent big enough for is $800 and we don't have that much money left. Every inside venue we have called so far require us to use there catering services and out side food and drinks arent allowed, which we already have paid for and it's non refundable. And the only venue we have found has already been booked.

While this may not be PC, I've seen and heard it done. Rent tents from like Amazon, then return them. Good Luck and I will pray that the weather clears up.

Call friends, family, acquaintances. Someone may have a tent that you could use. Don’t give up yet.

I would also agree with reaching out to all friends and family in the area and asking. You’d be surprised how many people own tents.

If you have it inside your FMIL's home would you still be able to have like a mingle type reception? No dancing or whatever but feed some guests and be able to talk a bit?

Unfortunately no, we have about 80 people coming for the ceremony and even more for the reception

Oh man I'm sorry Smiley sad I'd say you could always find a local park with a shelter house and go squat there. I've done that more times than I'm proud to admit LOL

If it’s a matter of wedding or no wedding, at this point even if I didn’t have the cash, I’d book a tent with a credit card , and hope to maybe receive a few cash gifts at the wedding to help pay off the bill when it comes

What about a larger restaurant with reasonably priced food? I'm sorry this is happening to you. Another option is renting a location that a club usually uses idk if this is true for everywhere but we have Elks Lodge, Moose lodge here. Also look at town halls that may be available.

I'm sure there is a hall or something you can rent for the reception. You can have a wedding reception just as wonderful inside as you could outside. But no weather issues and no bugs Smiley tongue

I agree with you on this. I’d be really annoyed if I spent money and PTO for a wedding that didn’t happen because there wasn’t a backup venue or accommodations made. No one can predict the weather. Our venue is outside but required a backup room space.
