Disabled bride

Okay so here it goes.. I’ve been avoiding talking about this but we are about 3 months from the wedding.. tomorrow we will be in the 100 day countdown & I need to start thinking what to do. I recently was diagnosed with a disability & am now using a walker majority of the time when I’m not home. I am praying that by the time the wedding comes I won’t have to use any support if my treatment & therapy goes well & helps. However I’m also being realistic & know there’s a possibility I will need to still use something. I don’t even know how to disguise my walker to look less well just plain & ugly 😭 anyone have any suggestions how to make it look more wedding appropriate? I never imagined my wedding day to be this way but I just want to embrace it because at the end of the day I’m marrying my best friend & he loves me & will accept me in any way I am. Idk if it’ll make a difference maybe I’m just venting but I’ll receive any tips thank you 🤍

I'm so sorry you're dealing with this, and hopefully the treatments are effective. However, your walker doesn't have to be "plain and ugly." If you do a Google image search of "Bride with walker," a few images come up of brides with walkers decorated with fabric and/or flowers. Hopefully those give you some inspiration!

You could put flowers or ribbons on it? Maybe some lacey fabric draped appropriately?

I’m so sorry you’re going through this! But you seem like you are strong & handling it well! My first thought was - do you have two people who can walk you down the aisle? Maybe they can help be your “walker” instead. If not, I think decorating it with some fabric & flowers will be pretty! You will outshine it anyway 🥰

Thank you for sharing your story, I love what you said about your partner loving and accepting you always, celebrate that and hold onto that. Just remember everyone at your wedding loves you for you many may not even notice the walker they ll be too preoccupied with how beautiful you look and the love in the room. If decorating the walker makes you feel better about it by all means go for it and have fun with it just make sure it doesn’t interfere with movement of the walker and how you hold it. Sometimes the more we try to hide/cover something the more we draw attention to it. I say rock that walker and let your smile lead the way. Sending you much love and big hugs Smiley heart

I'm sorry you're going through this so close to your wedding. I hope the treatments help.
I agree with everyone else, if you have to use it then embrace it, decorate it and make it a part of your wedding. My husband walks with a cane and also had concerns about using it for our wedding but honestly it's such a part of him no one even paid attention to it and it didn't take anything away from the look of our wedding.

Thank you for being vulnerable and sharing this with us ❤️ I agree with the other posters. Maybe adding some flowers to it would be really cute.

My daughter is in a similar situation, however she started in a wheelchair, went to a walker, cane and now she’s walking with a single cane. On her way trying to move from any assistance. Keep the faith. Things will work out!

I am so sorry you are going through this and I hope therapy is going well.

My fiancé's aunt uses canes and for the weddings she has been a bridesmaid in they took the extra fabric from her dress and wrapped it around the canes. It looked so cute! If your bridesmaids have extra fabric from their dress alterations you could try something like that so it matches them and then add flowers. I think it would look adorable and walker or not, you will look beautiful!

Thank you so much!!! I use a rollator walker most of the time for the seat but if it’s needed to use the day of my wedding I’ll be using my regular walker which can probably be decorated more easily. Thank you for the suggestions ❤️

You are so sweet thank you ☺️ that is a great suggestion! I was gonna have my 7 y.o. daughter walk with me. She is supposed to walk before me then my dad will meet her halfway & when I walk down he’ll meet me with my daughter & he’ll walk us to my fiancé. So I need to see how to adjust it so I don’t have to use the walker.

You are just too sweet thank you so much 🥺❤️ I thought about that too & wondered if people will really be paying attention to it anyways. I guess for my final fitting at the end of the month I’ll see how it looks.

Yes I’m hoping the treatments help as well!! So far it’s not doing much.. I’m supposed to start physical therapy but I haven’t yet & I was hoping to start way before so I could have more mobility. I appreciate you sharing your husband’s story & thank you 💕

Wow well I’m so glad to hear your daughter has made progress!! Praise God 🙌🏽 I’m currently using the rollator walker with a seat & I feel it’s just so bulky so if I could at least use a regular walker that would be great. Thank you ☺️

Unfortunately haven’t started therapy yet still waiting to get in.. they’ve been giving me the run around. That’s how it was trying to get an appointment with a rheumatologist everything is taking so long 😕. I absolutely love that idea!!! Thank you so much for this suggestion I’ll keep it in mind & you are very kind ❤️

Thank you! Keep up the great work, you will make progress. She started in a wheelchair after surgery, last September. She is on a single cane now. Praise god❤️. Best of luck to you.
