Direction to your wedding......

Shaunie, on June 17, 2010 at 5:03 PM Posted in Planning 0 10

I know usually when you get married you give direction from the church to the reception but we are having our ceremony and reception at the same place, so when putting directions in the invites what do I use as the starting point.

You don't. You just give them the address and perhaps the closest cross street. If you want to be very detailed you can include GPS co-ordinates as well.

From a major highway or directions that you know most people will be coming from... For ours we did "From the North" and "From 196" (the highway most people from the south will be using)

Just put "maps.google.com...figure it out yourselves" lol.

Seriously, I'm just putting the addresses...most people have GPSes anymore anyway.

I agree with Cat and Jessica. With so much technology today, an address is enough.

We listed directions for the out of town guests from the nearest airports and the hotels. Since there were only two airports people would be flying into, it wasnt that hard. However, people should be smart enough to figure it out!!

I agree with Kat. No maps for me. I'm only putting the address. My friends and family will use their GPS, cell phone, or computer to find it.

Any direction site I go on doesn't give the right directions, it says to turn left on a street that you can NOT turn left on lol. So I will be giving directions just from the freeway exit, and the airport. Otherwise I don't think I would put directions on, if it were easy.

Well, you had better hope everyone has access to GPS! And, as Future Mrs. Welch stated, sometimes the instructions are not correct...I had a bride send out her invitations with google instructions that said from I75 exit here and go straight....well, I75 was closed for a year!!, and even if one got to the exit, the road didn't go straight, but dead-ended. Her other set of instructions for people coming from the west side said exit I94 and go 2 miles, then turn right on X street.. Well, 2 miles was past x street...google had counted the length of the exit ramp, whereas most people would start counting at the end of the ramp. AND there was no street sign for X street, and you couldn't turn right on it anyway!!!! BE CAREFUL

Although in this day and age ALMOST everyone has access to a GPS or google maps or mapquest, etc... I still am planning on putting directions in from the three closest major highways/bridges. You have to account for the 1 in 100 people that don't have access to the tools above or if someone's GPS doesn't "find" the location. A friend of mine didn't want to deal with directions so she had just a map made up and the address.

Check with you venue. A lot of places will give you directions to include in your invites.
