Dinnerware help!

Kayla, on February 18, 2020 at 7:03 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 7
Hi all! My financé and I are on the fence about doing real dinnerware or heavy duty plastic. Our wedding (about 70 guests) is in his parents backyard and we are having a BBQ buffet. I'm wanting a more low key wedding but him and his family is more traditional and fancy. The plastic would save us a lot of money and make cleanup easy also.

BUT I need the silverware to be real since I can't stand eating with plastic forks but I'm wondering about the plates and cups? We could rent everything but we don't want to worry about cleaning them up and making sure the rental company recieves them all. Also wondering if it'd be weird to have real silverware but plastic plates.
Our app/dessert plates and silverware will already be plastic and we'll have plastic water cups. For drinks we were thinking the easiest way would be have cans of pop and an ice bucket for our guests to grab and pour their own. His parents are planning the alcohol drinks so the only cups we'll need to provide is for the pop.
Thoughts?? I know it's a lot of information, but we've been going back and forth for weeks. Thanks!!

I think biodegradable is best! It’s a great mashup of NOT plastic but also NOT silver wear!

If it's in your parent's backyard and a bbq, I would say go with the heavyweight plastic. It's easier clean up (we are doing it too because we have food allergies and need to have a bunch of extras so that they don't cross contaminate on the trips to the buffet)

Sam's club actually has nice heavy duty fanicer looking silverware and plates. I wouldn't use real plates or silverware, if you need for yourself then use real, noone will know and you're the bride.

Costco has the same as above and that’s the route I’d go. My concern is rental items get thrown in trash.

There are a ton of great compostable dinnerware items you can buy in bulk. Some are actually quite nice and study. I like the rectangular ones. Compostable wares are totally appropriate for a BBQ style dinner.

Based on the type of wedding you are having, heavy duty plastic seems appropriate. I would either have disposable everything or real everything. I would not mix them.

I would definitely go with the heavy duty plastic. We are also doing bbq and are getting married on a friend's farm, and are going the disposable route as well. If you prefer real silverware I would suggest having a set for you to use, but having disposable cutlery for your guests so that none are misplaced by accident.
