Dinner songs vs. reception songs

SB, on June 1, 2018 at 10:09 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 11

If you have a DJ or are planning to play music through something else, what songs are you playing during dinner? I need ideas for subtle, yet not boring music. Our playlist is mainly country, throwbacks, ridiculous line songs, etc. All ideas appreciated!

Are you using a DJ? A professional DJ will know what kind of music to play during dinner. No one will be paying attention to it, so it's not something you need to make a playlist for. Just trust your DJ.

Yes we are having a professional DJ. On his contract he gave me a spot to put music for dinner and music for the reception and I blanked, so I just said I would get back with him.

We haven't decided on songs persay, but our DJ told us to give him some genres and he would make a playlist for the entire night. We of course could select the songs we absolutely DO NOT WANT played. I'd recommend talking to your DJ to see what other couples have done to get an idea and see what he recommends.

I disagree that people won't pay attention to the music. We attended a wedding on 5/5 and the music the DJ played was awful..it was super boring while we were waiting to receive our dinner meal..at 9 PM by the way. *insert eye roll*

I'm actually a wedding musician myself, so I'm speaking from experience. Also, 9pm is pretty standard for entrees where I'm from.

OP, if it were me, I'd just tell the DJ, "play what you normally play for dinner music", and leave it at that. If you really need to tell him something, jazz music is pretty standard for dinner hour.

We aren't telling him what to play, just quieter/happy country music in the background so it's playing and sets a good vibe but isn't dancing music yet!

Ah that's a great idea! Our playlist is mostly country, so I'll just have to go through and pick which ones would be better for dancing and which ones are better to hangout to. Thanks FutureMrsD!

Our DJ asked for the same and I rhink it is mainly to get a feel of the kind of music you like...I gave him the following list:

    Your Song - Aquile

    Closer - Hoku

    Can't Say - BBMak

    Count On Me- Bruno Mars

Baby You've Got What It Takes - Michael Buble ft. Sharon Jones

    Love Me Tender - Elvis

    All I Need - Hoku

    Crazy Love - Michael Buble

All The Way - Celine Dion & Frank Sinatra

How Deep Is Your Love - Bee Gees

After All - Michael Buble ft. Bryan Adams

You Have That Effect on Me - Brad Paisley

Love You 'Til the End - The Pogues

Have I Told You Lately I Love You - Rod Stewart

9 pm is late for entrees where I’m at for a wedding that started at 5 pm. I’m speaking from being a guest at weddings. It’s my opinion. Doesn’t make it law.

You might try some instrumental music like fiddle, celtic, or an upbeat classical piece. Something that doesn't take away from dinner conversation but keeps the energy alive.
