Dinner Menu for buffet?

Emily, on January 6, 2020 at 1:48 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 7
Hey y’all

We are having a local Italian restaurant cater for us. They do buffet style so they will drop them off at the venue and give us what serving spoons and whatnot.
However, they have a lot to choose from! We plan on getting at least four different pastas they make. Their meals have weird names, like Momma, Nonna, Poppa, Diana, Zia, etc etc. so it’s not easily distinguishable. I do plan on having each dish labeled on the line..
I was wondering how you would go about telling the guest what is in these dishes? I feel like one printout of it at the buffet line will not be enough. I don’t want it to be crowded. Would you make menus to leave at the dinner tables so people know beforehand? Or is that misleading since this is a buffet?

I've been to a buffet meal reception that had menus. I found it a little odd considering it was just mashed potatoes and chicken or beef. But I think in this case it would be ok.

Especially since some guests may have preferences/requirements regarding ingredients that may not be completely obvious, I'd probably make (or ask the restaurant for) small signs for each dish that lists the ingredients. Many guests won't care and will gladly take some of everything that looks good to them, but for those with dietary restrictions, it will help ensure they stay safe. Personally, I don't think you need actual menus for a buffet. Especially as a guest without major dietary concerns, I wouldn't read it.

I think I would put menus out even if it's just a few per table, that way there isn't a big hold up at the buffet line with people reading what is in each dish.

In this case i think it would be a good idea. if you don't want to put it at the table you could do a sign with an easel and set it up near the buffet. Since the dishes have their own names - and it seems there won't be staff from the catering place to explain the dish, the menu is a good idea.

You can just do one menu per table. Since your menu has names that people won't just know what it is I think it'd be better to have a description of it

We had menus on the table even though our dinner was a buffet. Guests sat to a plated salad, bread & butter & water, then went to the buffet after our first dance. So they saw the menu then saw labels again at the buffet.

As a guest, I would very much appreciate a menu at a buffet, even if it's one that in the middle of each table. It gives people a heads up what is available and what, if anything, to avoid before they fill their plates. It cuts down on traffic in the buffet line as well.
