Dinner for 2 Prize package...Scam or not?? PLEASE HELP!!

Amber, on March 20, 2017 at 11:30 PM Posted in Planning 0 20

I received a call today from a place called dinner for 2, in St. Louis Mo, saying my Fiance and I had won a prize package that included oven mits, matching champagne flutes and a free 3 day/ 2 night trip. We just have to attend a seminar for 90 minutes on Thursday at a hotel in Springfield, IL. I've heard the sales people are pushy but you don't have to buy anything to get your prizes. I'm excited about the trip, but it sounds to good to be true that we would only have to pay airfare. They said the hotel, food, drink and activities are included. Has anyone gone to this event and were the prizes legit? Did you go on the trip and was everything really paid for or were there hidden fees for this "free trip." Is the seminar worth our time to go? I have no problem paying airfare, I just don't want a surprise bill at the end of he trip, with no way of getting out of it. I've read good and bad reviews about this situation so I'm confused on what to do. Any advice would be helpful.

They will try and pressure you to buy a whole bunch of unnecessary things and I can almost guarantee it will last more than 90 minutes. Just keep telling them no and be prepared to pay taxes for the free stufd

It is not a scam. They will give you the prices. My fiance and I went. They try to sell you cookware. You just have to say no you don't want to purchase it at the end and be stern and they will give you a voucher for a free mini honeymoon and the champagne flutes. However you have to pay the shipping on the flutes and shipping was $19.95. If you can say no and not feel bad I would say go get the gifts! We did!

We haven't gone to that exact one but my FH and I have gone and listened to 2 or 3 timeshare presentations solely for the incentives they were giving us! Our first one got us a Friday-Monday cruise to the Bahamas with airfare. All we had to do was pay the taxes and our transportation from the airport to the ship and then anything on the island we bought. We also go a trip to Hawaii where only our accommodations were included. Just recently we did a week vacation that was broken up with a stay in Florida, cruise to the Bahamas, stay in the Bahamas, and then cruised back, and a rental car. We had to pay airfare and our one extra night in Florida that we wanted but everything else was dirt cheap just by listening to the presentation! Everyone is different but we don't mind sitting through a couple hours to get cheap vacations out of them!

ETA: we never bought into any timeshares

It depends on your priorities. I hate boring lectures and feeling like I'm being pressured into something just to get a fairly cheap payout. The trip may be free but that does not mean you are staying anywhere spectacular. I like to vacation on my vacation, and to me, it's just not worth it.

It all depends on if you want to waste almost an entire day going to listen to the presentation. They will try their hardest and keep knocking the price down to see if they can get you to buy into whatever they are trying to sell you. YOU DONT HAVE TO BUY TO GET THE GIFTS! They give you the gifts as an incentive for you listening to them. For the ones we've been to, it's been pretty simple and when we say no, they let us go and we get the gifts with no problem. Some vacations they pay for most and some they just pay for a little and you're responsible for the remaining.

I worked for them actually! Not a scam, but like a commented above said make it very clear you do not want to Buy. And yes you pay taxes on all the stuff. But all of the prizes are real.

Don't do it! They called me saying I won at a bridal show that I didn't even attend, so I instantly knew it was a scam.

I live in Springfield, too, but grew up closer to St. Louis. I've never heard of it, but there was another discussion on this business from a few years ago: https://m.weddingwire.com/wedding-forums/dinner-for-two/088836028a81c3a8

I've received two calls from them for two separate bridal shows I attended. I didn't go to either of them but my friend ended up going because they called her too and it was legit. They had to sit through a cookware presentation and were pressured to but the product but babe stern and say no, you'll still get the prizes. Personally it wasn't worth my time and effort trying you find a babysitter so I passed

So i worked there for awhile.

so what happens is when you sign up on wedding websites, or go to davids bridal and give them your info, they turn around and sell that info to 3rd parties like Royal prestige.

we would receive lists of brides to be, and cold call each one offering the "bridal package" please keep in mind there is no "drawing" and you did not win it. we would offer this to literally anyone who signed up on those lists.

we were supposed to make it sound like a fun little experience for you and your fiance and make the bridal package sound good. we were not supposed to talk about any of the fees or taxes unless you specifically asked.

when you show up, you sit down and watch a presentation put on by our salesmen. they will cook you some chicken and vegetables using their cookware line. keep in mind these guys are SALESMEN so the goal is to sell you cookware.

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BUY THE COOKWARE TO GET THE PACKAGE!

make sure if you are not interested in the cookware and only want the prizes, for you and your fiance to go into this FIRM AND UNITED on not buying anything!

after the presentation is over you will sit down with someone and they will go over everything that you do and dont pay for, taxes, etc.

if i remember correctly, you pay your air fare for the trip, and pay the tax on the wedding bands and champagne flutes.

you will get the package JUST for attending. AGAIN, you do not have to buy the cookware.

it is kind of scammy how they convince you to come, but the reason they get away with it is because they follow through with what they promised you.

i have attended a few presentations, and they do actually make it pretty entertaining, and the food is great.

if you like free-ish stuff, and want to do something fun with your fiance, id say go for it.
