Dinner at 8? Is that too late

MJ, on October 4, 2016 at 4:49 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 37

So I am having my ceremony at 630pm followed by cocktail hour and then dinner. Dinner would begin at 8. Is that late?

Appetizers would be passed around cocktail hour. My wedding is scheduled to end at 12 or 1230 - haven't decided yet.

Thoughts?

That sounds okay, although 6:30 is pretty late to start a ceremony.

This is standard here. Invites at 6:00, ceremony at 6:30, cocktails from 6:30-7:30, intros and first dance and first course at 8:00.

I wanted the ceremony to happen right before sun down since it is suppose to be outside. At first I thought nothing of it but then I started over thinking it and thought people would be starving by then.

It seems a bit late to me, but I also have hypoglycemia and would probably be feeling faint by then unless I stuffed my face with appetizers.

Sounds good since you are having apps too. We are having cocktail hour with apps at 630pm and dinner will start by 745pm.

My sisters wedding followed that timeline. Will there be food at cocktail hour? What about kiddos? We are having a large amount of kids at our wedding so we shifted the ceremony up some.

ETA ahh sorry see you are having apps. So never mind!

My ceremony was at 700 pm and we had cocktail hour with appetizers at 730, and dinner at 845 pm! We had so much food, and I was worried that the guests would all be hungry by the time we got to dinner but we had no issues and everyone (including us) was well fed and happy all night Smiley smile

Sounds fine to me. Even if people typically eat at 6, they can nosh only an hour later at cocktail hour. No big thing!

If an adult can't figure out to have a snack beforehand that's in them, if you have apps at cocktail hour you're good, it's not like they won't have any food until 8

Yeah as long as things are running on time and apps start at 7 I think it would be fine

That sounds fine to me, as long as you have cocktail hour in between your ceremony and reception.

That's what we're doing, but our ceremony will probably start around 5:30. It's a half hour drive from the ceremony to the reception venue.

They should be fine since you are having food during cocktail hour which will hold them over until dinner
