Dilemma:mother son dance song

5 days till the wedding.

FH has a complicated and often difficult relationship with his mom. At first he wanted no mother son dance but he went back and forth so much. His parents are paying for a lot of the wedding so it really would be hard to not have that dance without major rift... I see her trying to repair her relationship with him but also see her games 100%. We are talking major abandonment issues and denial of destructive behaviors on the mothers part.

ive tried so hard to help him find a not mushy but acceptable song. The best I can come up with is Secrets by One Republic.

offensive ungrateful and hurtful?

what’s your opinion? If you feel it is a bad song to use - then please suggest a better option that doesn’t glorify a fantastical relationship.

Hey Katherine—my FH is in the same place right now. The best we’ve come up with so far is “My Wish” by Rascal Flatts. The lyrics are all about letting your loved one carry to the next stage of life and wishing all the best with their future while letting them know they’re loved. We’re not 100% sold on it, but maybe it could help you! Good luck!

So I haven’t heard he song you posted- but I wanted to say I had a similar situation— I would suggest “you’ve got a friend in me” from toy story. It’s like two minutes long lol so it’s less awkward and the song itself is cute but not mushy

My FH also doesn't have a great relationship with his mother, but they agreed on "Child of Mine" by Anne Murray.

My (now) husband danced with his grandma who he does have a good relationship with. But being his mom couldn’t be there and grandma instead, maybe this will help?

they danced to Frank Sinatra “the way you look tonight”. It’s a faster beat, old school crowd pleaser, and does just talk about one night rather than a lifetime of love.
