Digital prints and not hard copies

Trish, on September 22, 2016 at 8:48 AM Posted in Married Life 1 15

Looking through photography packages, hard copy prints are usually not included. I understand technology-everything is digital now. Where would I go to print my wedding photos? Shutterfly maybe? Is it expensive to print the photos? Should the photography package include some hard copies?

My package comes with both! I would never go with a photographer who didn't give me my hard copies!

You can print anywhere now a days. Walmart, Walgreens, Costco (thats what we did). To me, it's kind of better, because you have all of your pictures and you can print the ones you want, in the size you want. Costco is very inexpensive to print even large sizes. I ended up printing all of the good ones in 4x6 for a photo book and then printed others in 11x14 to hang.

Ours doesn't include hard copies either. It's honestly waaaaay cheaper to print yourself.

    Walgreens

    Staples

    Costco

    Walmart

They all offer large prints & even canvases. & you can easily find coupons for prints as well!

Make sure to use a good quality lab if you're going to make prints and products yourself. Costco does make good prints. For larger products (canvasses, albums, etc.), look into professional labs. Nations Photo Lab has great quality items and is decently priced.

If I want professional quality photos, I go to http://www.mpix.com/

The finishes are gorgeous and it is on quality papers. The shipping is quick.

My photographer friends use them when printing for clients and they aren't much more expensive than going to Walgreens.

The great thing is that they constantly have coupons. Last week it was 25% off prints of any size. Sometimes it is their books or canvases.

I printed ours at Walgreens when they had a 40% sale going on. I printed over 150 photos of all sizes for less than 40.00!

Our photography package doesn't come with any hard copies - but through business, we know quite a few printers who we believe will do a great job printing our hard copies out for family.

I will second the advice of printing larger prints with a professional photo lab. I've used Nations Photo Lab as well and they have great quality and short turn around times.

I would recommend printing with Nations Photo Lab. Going with a higher quality printer will make SO much difference.

    Here's a blog post about that: https://rebeccadanzenbaker.wordpress.com/2013/01/31/consumer-photo-labs-vs-pro-photo-lab-shocking-results/

Mpix is really good. SIL is a wedding photographer and she uses them. She did our engagement photos as a gift for us, and she told us not to use shutterfly or another printing service since the quality wouldn't be as good. Mpix is amazing. Great quality and a really great price!

I just printed my thank you card pictures, did 100 photos at 2X3 size, and it cost me LITERALLY $3.50. I was so happy I didn't use my photographer to print the thank you pictures.

We just went with the electronic copy, and got a coffee book and two pictures done by the photographer. The coffee table book turned out really great.

Yes, I understand everything is digital these days but there’s also a BIG case to be made for three other fine points. The first is this:
    1) CONVENIENCE! How many well intended people out there say that they’ll get prints done and there pictures are still only in digital form or in the cloud?
    2) PRESERVATION! You need a dark room and a trusted professional, with years of wedding photography experience, if you’re going to get premium preservation of photos that will be around for generations. 3) PROFESSIONALISM! In my opinion, it’s borderline unprofessional to NOT include photo prints in all of your wedding packages. If you’re really good, then you should insist on including an album in all your packages. Ppl that view that album are going to drop their jaw when they see the quality of your albums! In other words, the tangible album, and photos, that you take, are your BEST advertisement and if someone gets them printed off at Walmart ?!? Well there went your quality standard .. it just dropped from a 5 star to a 3 star
As a professional myself, I don’t want someone else botching up my work so I would want to either finish and touch them up myself or choose the one who’s going to finish and touch up MY WORK. My daughter got married in May 2021. I spent over 5k on photographer and videographer and all I got to show for it was a You tube link and another link to view the pictures. I’m sorely disappointed with that. I’m picky so there’s no telling how much it’s going to cost me to get these photos in premium prints now. Just my old school opinion

This discussion on photos seems old but just popped up. That is a great argument for professional photo development to prints of the photos. I will try to keep that in mind for our photographer.

Has anyone followed this advice recently?
