Paper invitations and paper rsvps. We’ve seen digital invitations backfire as guests where the couples mentioned they were told by guests that they didn’t take them seriously for a formal event and were waiting on paper invites. So hardly anyone attended as a result.

IMO paper is more appropriate for a semi-formal or formal affair (plus engraving or calligraphy for the latter) . Digital invitations and RSVPs can work for a more casual event.

From a practical POV, in my experience emails can very easily be missed.

I am fully on Team Paper!! It’s just so rare that we have a use for fancy paper products anymore. We’ve been working with a stationer to do customized STDs and an invitation suite, and the process has been such a fun way to start incorporating our colors and themes while signaling to our guests what kind of event this will be. We’re really happy with how they’ve turned out so far, and I can’t imagine we would’ve received the same positive feedback from our guests if we’d done digital STDs. Our invitations haven’t gone out yet, but our stationer has started the design and FH and I are both so excited about them!

But when we send them out, we are giving our guests the option to send back the RSVP card or respond online. We want to make that part as convenient on our guests as possible.
And I totally get the environmental arguments for digital over paper. I just…went with my preference anyway.

I like having at least the invitation on paper. That way I can stick it on the fridge or someplace I'll see it in the event I need to remember to buy a gift, book a flight, make hotel arrangements, etc. Digital invites tend to get lost. I prefer a paper RSVP, but digital RSVPs are fine by me personally since I usually make a point to RSVP right when I get the invitation.

We did our invites (and the whole invitation suite) on paper, but offered both a paper and digital RSVP option. Most people sent back the paper RSVP, but the digital one came in handy when we messaged people who didn't get back to us on time and could send the link along with the message.

I prefer paper invites, but find digital RSVPs much more convenient.

I prefer paper invitations. To me it seems for formal. Plus with online stuff you just never know what can happen. Also paper invites can be made into a keepsake.

Would you consider a combination? Recently, I received 2 single sheet cards with QR codes to their corresponding websites. One was a Save the Date that noted "formal invite to follow". The other offered online RSVPs, and other details for their International wedding. I don't think it mattered to me to expect a follow-up invitation as I'm a planner and already booked hotels, travel, and tours.

I think if you send only emails or texts, these will get lost. Worse yet, guests might assume your wedding is so casual that an RSVP or punctuality is not necessary. So in doubt, I'd assess your guests and their personalities to choose.

I like paper... it feels more fancy and special. My husband however was all for digital until he saw the mockup that I made and then realized how it just changes the vibe in the fancier direction

Digital invitations can be a convenient and eco-friendly choice. They're easy to send, and track, and often more budget-friendly. If you're considering digital invitations, you might want to check out MrInvites.com for a wide range of digital invitation services!
