Difficult time finding dress! Anyone Else??

Emily, on June 23, 2019 at 5:40 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 10
Hi! I'm new here but have been reading the forums since my engagement a few months ago. I feel like I have tried on a hundred dresses and still haven't found "the one". Did anyone else go through this? I'm just worried I'm going to end up picking something just because I'm burnt out on the process of dress shopping. Someone tell me they have been through this and ended up finding their perfect dress after all! Smiley smile Thanks for any advice!

I didn't go through that, but I would say try and find dresses that check all of your boxes. For example, I wanted a 1) tulle 2) ballgown that is 3)strapless with 4) beading and 5) a corset. Also, don't be afraid to alter a dress to make it perfect. My dress originally had an illusion neckline and a zipper, but I changed those to make it the perfect dress.

Just give yourself some time. Go alone if you have to. I went through a lot of dresses but I still kept thinking about one. Good luck!

Thanks!! That's s good way to look at it! There have been a couple that I have considered altering but thought that seemed silly since they are so expensive. I guess I feel like I should be able to find something without making those changes. But I think you're right.. I need to be more open to it. Or maybe even having something custom made. Thanks for the advice!

Of course! I didn't want to have to alter a dress, but I think it's a great option. It helped me find the perfect dress! Good luck, I hope you find one soon!

I'm so sorry to hear you are going through this. I have been through what you are going through right now. I said yes to the dress to three different dresses and my mom bought all of them. She insisted that she was buying my wedding dress. The first dress I picked was because I was tired of shopping so I just picked one to be done. Within hours, I was at home crying because I made a mistake. The following weekend my mom and grandmother went shopping with me again. I found the second dress. I liked it, but didn't love it. I went to two fittings and each time I went I looked at other dresses. I really wanted a dress with "secret sparkle" which is basically one layer of tuelle with sparkle and when you walk it sparkles. Fast forward to last weekend (one month prior to my wedding), my mom and I went to another bridal salon with the first dress to see if they could shorten it for me to wear to my after party. They could but the applicas on the dress would be cut in half and it would look strange. They showed me dresses they had on sale and I fell in love with one of the sale dresses. My mom could tell I love that dress and she told me I should wear what I love. It doesn't currently have "secret sparkle", but they are adding it. They are going to shorten the second dress and we are going to sell the first one. The moral of my story is don't pick a dress just because you don't want to try anymore on. I did and it was a huge mistake. It may take going to several places, but I promise it will be worth it in the end because you will find a dress you love. I can also tell you my mom and grandmother love my new dress more than any other dress I tried on and told me it was so me unlike the other two dresses. I can also tell you don't try to please others. When we first started shopping, I found a dress I loved, but I thought everyone would judge me because it was huge sparkly ballgown. I realized after everything I went through that others opinions don't matter because it isn't their wedding it's yours.

I’m going through the same thing!
Idk if it’s because I work I. Fashion but everything. I’ve seen tried on so far just looks either ugly to me or not me :/
the two dresses I really liked but didn’t try on are now discontinued (I have a two year engagement so I thought 20 months out is too early to buy a dress at that time). Now I’m going to another state to look at the dresses with my mom hoping she can help me narrow it down.
Have you been looking by yourself? Maybe 1 trusted person is all you need.
    Good luck!

YES! I did. I went to 8-10 stores (trying on 10-15 dresses per shop). The year I was shopping, long sleeves with fitted bodice and ballgown skirt were nearly impossible to find. I finally figured out to buy separates to create the look I wanted.

What are you looking for that you’re not finding?

Keep in mind some alterations are easy—adding straps to a staples dress, adding fabric to a neckline if the “V” is too low/revealing.

I'm just getting back on and seeing all of you that have went or are going through the same thing. I really appreciate you sharing your stories. I'm going to be patient and have faith I'll find the right dress. And if not, maybe I'll consider having one made. I'm looking at 2 different websites right now as a worse case scenario... One is Anamolie.com and the other is BridalDesignHouse.com I have seen good reviews on both but the second one sounds more affordable. Again,.. worse case scenario. For now I'll go to my 4 dress appointments starting tomorrow. Smiley smile lol. I'll keep you guys updated! Thanks again!
