Different Venue for Ceremony & Reception

Ashleigh, on July 10, 2018 at 7:01 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 10
My FH and I decided to have our reception at a separate hall from his church because the hall is just too small for our 250+ guests invited.

The hall is only a 15-20 minute drive from the ceremony location.

Has anyone had troubles or bad experiences at their or others weddings where traveling is required?

It is something I'm stressing about and I want to hear all the "bads" that could happen because of it.

Thanks all!

I've only been to 2 weddings where the ceremony and reception were in the same spot. Having a Catholic wedding myself and our reception is a 25 minute drive away. None of our invited are bothered by it and they're used to it. I've never heard of any real problems from it except when couples decide to have their wedding at noon and the reception at night. Ours is immediately after. I have seen that some people won't go to the ceremony and show up to the reception.

I’m considering separate locations for my ceremony and reception.

I don’t think traveling will be an issue. I’ve attended weddings where I had to travel across town for the ceremony and reception and didn’t find issues with it. If I wanted to be a part of those celebrations, I knew I had to travel.

Don’t sweat it too much. I’ve been to plenty of weddings where the ceremony and reception are in two different places, and it always turns out just fine. I’m having my ceremony at a chruch and reception in a hall Smiley smile

I have been to many weddings where traveling 20+ min to get to the reception was needed and they were great! I am planning on having two different locations for my ceremony and reception too!

This is pretty common especially for couples who decide to have a church ceremony. The general rule is that you want to keep the two locations within 30 minutes of each other. Anything more than that is considered too far.

We're doing 2 locations and I feel fine about it. We're choosing an outdoor space for our ceremony, with the reception to follow at a hall approximately 20 minutes away. I'm sure my guests will fair just fine with this lol.

It’s definitely not my favorite when the locations are separate but I wouldn’t mind 15-25min for a drive. What DOES bother me is having to drive there & cocktail hour won’t be starting for another hour or so smh

Like others have said, most people don't see it as an issue unless there's a huge gap between the ceremony and reception. I've actually never been to a wedding where both are in the same location.

I can totally see how that would be frustrating. I'll keep that in mind for cocktail hour. Thank you for your input!

Separate locations has been the norm for most of the weddings I’ve been to. 15-20 min isn’t far in my area
