Different Spin on Photo Booth/selfie Station

Morgan, on September 20, 2019 at 12:51 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 3 5
Hello all!

My fiancé and I have been going back and forth on the idea of doing some sort of Photo Booth or Selfie Station at our wedding. Friends of our who's wedding's we have gone to have sometime had them and people seem to have a good time with them. My thing is, that to rent on, it can get very expensive that I've seen people use once for about an hour or 2 throughout the night and it never gets used again.

I thought about DIYing one with an iPad, tripod for the iPad, a Photo Booth app, creating our own backdrop, and adding some props to use. Which seemed like a great idea until I realized I didn't want to get anything to print with.

After months of toying around with idea, I came across this picture that someone must've done for their wedding. They basically set up it up, but stated on their sign that all photos would be shared using a hashtag.

I personally love the idea since we are doing the whole unplugged ceremony thing anyway and were going to use a website to share our professional photos anyway along with a a social media hashtag.

My fiancé likes the idea but is concerned people wont like because they wont be walking away with a photo strip that night. While this is very true, I thought it would be nice to share all the Photo Booth pictures so all the guests could view everything and print the ones they want or don't. They can see the fun everyone else was having throughout the night. We would have all the pictures for ourselves to look at. I also thought it may be fun to treat our guests and print a 3 or 4 photo strip for people who used it and include some of their pictures already printed in their thank you card.

Also, I would plan to upload them quickly to social media AND a photo sharing website that our guests could easily access and use without a social media account or signing up for anything (same one our photographers will be using and we would be sharing anyway).

I just want to get some opinions of what anyone else would think of seeing something like this at an event. Would you like it? Not like it? Think it was inconvenient? Would you think it was nice to get some fun prints in your thank you card?

Let me know and thanks!

I would be a little bummed about not having a photo to take with me, but I'd still take some for the bride and groom. If you included some prints in the Thank You cards that would be a fun surprise.

We used a couple of Polaroid Snaps since they print the photos instantly and people seemed to have fun with them.

A lot of people like having the print but I think offering them the electronic version is super popular.

Thanks for the input!! I had actually thought about the whole Instax camera thing but I know I've gotten mixed feelings on that since if everyone wants to be in the photo you always need to ask someone to take it for you and it never works out quite right taking a selfie with one. But I totally get that it would suck to not get them for a day or two online and have to wait for some in a thank you card (especially since they don't know they'll be in there).
I may play around with both ideas though of having the iPad available and the Instax camera since my family thought about a small diy photobooth at a family party coming up.
    Thank you again Smiley smile

We are doing the same. Many of our guests have a strong online presence so it's perfect for them to have something they can add to their social media. I have done the photo booth with printed pictures thing and it was just something I put up in my office at work. It would have been just as fine with me to have something to add online.
