I’m in the planning of booking our reception venue because where my fiancé and I are having our ceremony doesn’t include a reception space. The places that we’ve looked at near the ceremony location are astronomically expensive and we saw that the more affordable venues are located downtown.

That means our guest will have to drive 20-25 (max) to the reception venue then pay to park in the mall garage, valet ($36-45), or find street parking. Do you think that that’s an inconvenience for our guest, if we’re letting them know in advance when we send out our invitations (detailing the parking and second location reception situation )? My parents thinks it’s rude to have guest pay to park for our wedding, but my fiancé and I think that it shouldn’t be a big deal if we’re letting them know way in advance, and they can decline the rsvp if they wanted to.
We just need another set of opinions. Let me know what do you all think, please!!!

Yes! Unlimited free parking at all the nearby hotels and reception venues. It’s just the pricing of everything there! 🥲

Could you change the day of your wedding to like a Friday or something? Would that help save money at the hotels/reception venues?

I don’t think the drive is a huge issue. We got a limo bus to take our guests to the ceremony and then to the reception. But I understand that can be a huge expense. Is there a way that you can work out a discounted deal with the parking garage?

I haven’t asked, but from what I was talking to the wedding event manager, they have no association with the garage owner. This is legit the hardest part of planning a wedding .

We saw that it wasn’t really worth changing the date. It’s only like a thousand dollar difference.

I know that transportation is a big factor. You don’t want to inconvenience people to a point where they decide not to come and you don’t know necessarily know what people’s limits are. You could still go directly to the parking garage to see if something can be worked out. My friends rented out the Baltimore Aquarium for their wedding. There was a garage across the street and they worked out a good enough deal that they paid for everyone’s parking ($300 for 63 cars). I will admit that it took her some time to figure out how many vouchers she needed but it all worked out in the end. If the garage is your best bet then I would go directly to them.

Oh fair enough - I thought you might save more than that for having a different day. It really is a hard place for you to be in isn't it?

Yeah that’s definitely a factor. I can contact that and see how they can help us. I know $28 is no way reasonable. We’re trying to go about this without breaking an arm and leg.

It’s literally the worst, and I find myself stressed out even more because the longer I wait, the more anxiety I get because the dates are filling up at these venues. I want to make it accommodating but I don’t want to go too far in debt.

I'm sorry your planning isn't going well and you are stressing so much about all these things like the venue and transport and parking. Can you plan your wedding for a later time in the future so you have more time to save the money up?

It’s okay, thank you for concern. Not many people ask or at least seem to care to talk about it, so I appreciate that. We could do that, but we’ve already been together for so long, I just want to marry him. Lol

Another suggestion is you could just have a courthouse small wedding and dinner with immediate family and save up and have a party in a year or so. i know it's not ideal but I know that some people have had to do that because of Covid so maybe you could look at that? Smiley smile

I really appreciate all of your suggestions. We’ve decided to decrease the guest number and go with the venue that’s closer to the ceremony with the unlimited parking so it’s not as expensive.

I'm glad you have made a decision about the venue for your reception. Are there people you can decide on to let go from the guest list easily? I know that can't be too easy either.
