Different music taste than our family

Breanna, on August 3, 2018 at 5:48 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 7

Something I have had a hard time with is incorporating my music tastes in with the rest of my families. Me and my Fiance both like rock and roll, but we have many family members from my side that are christian or have kids. While I do have some songs that can benefit both sides, I have no idea what else to play. Something that annoys me is the "typical wedding song playlist" mainly due to catering so many weddings and parties over the years, what can I do to make sure everyone is that something is age appropriate and doesn't bother the ones who have different music choices as me and my fiance?

Were doing rock, pop and some oldies. Our DJ knows to only play 2 or 3 songs that are country as we cant stand it! It's your day and should reflect you. We also aren't doing the YMCA, chicken dance, hockey pokey or any of those either. Not our style and not what we envision... we want a party

A good DJ knows top hits to please ranges, but can give trickier if you have a don't play list. Maybe do genre blocks? This genre from 4-430, etc? Congrats on the your special day!

I do have some songs that I know I definitely can play, but I have been to many weddings and I'm not having a DJ. I will take your advice only playing some songs from other genres because there are few that I except. Plus catering enough weddings and listening to the same songs over and over gets on my nerves, which has been causing my issue.

I am actually not having a DJ, so that's what I'm struggling with. I am creating my own playlist, but want to include song that are favorites of mine and my fiances. I also don't want to create a playlists where they offended family or are inappropriate for younger kids. Something else that's giving me a hard time, is that my fiance wants to do the playlist, while I am perfectly OK with that, he also doesn't consider my family and how many younger kids there will be at our wedding.

That's tough. If it was up to me my family would be forced to listen to the hamilton soundtrack all night. Therefore we needed to get a dj. Everyone has different skills, if you have a friend or family member who is good at making playlists and can incorporate your favorite music I would try to rely on them for help. (this would be my brother)
I heard of someone who found a dj using thumbtack if that helps to try and give a cheaper, less traditional person.

I think it's okay to play 3-4 songs of yours then incorporate a pop song that kids will like (have them dance with you on that song!) then go back to a slow song everyone can dance to then back to your tunes... I get what you mean though!

Do you have alternative genres that you don't mind? I was at a wedding where it was HUGE and there was quite a range in the ages of the guest and you could tell the bride and groom had eclectic taste in music! they played "Empire of the Suns" (a unique artist) music in and out of classics & hits and the dance vibe really kept people like bobbing their head to it. just a thought Smiley smile Find an artist with that dance vibe that people will enjoy and rotate it in and out - do you like any of Avicii's music? I have had weddings where people play a lot of his music in and out too!

    Best of luck!
