Did you write your own vows?

I actually wrote the whole wedding ceremony and then my fiance and i sat down and edited it together.

Yes! Writing my vows was one of the first things I started doing lol We also fully personalized the ceremony script.

I started at least 8 months in advance. It's something I knew wouldn't be perfect the first time I wrote them, so I've gone back and edited/added to them at least 7 times lol have to make sure they're perfect! Our wedding has been postponed, so now I have plenty more time to make changes although I think they're finally perfect!

We did and they were lovely, very much reflections of each of us. Mine were shorter, to the point, but sweet and a little funny. His were much more poetic and wordy (he writes a lot spoken word poetry).

My favorite part was that we both referenced an ongoing joke about the time we went out for groceries and came home with 2 cats (totally my doing, and we already had two at the time, lol). Since neither of us saw the others' vows, that was completely unplanned. I joked that I couldn't promise not to go out for groceries and come home with more cats instead, and he joked that he was going to go out for groceries and come home with 2 dogs instead. :-D

We had our officiant hold our printed vows, then hand them to us to read at the right time. We wrote our own ceremony after our original officiant was flaking out and not listening to our requests. One of my BMs stepped up, got herself ordained and took over 4 days before the ceremony! And she was freaking amazing too. She really needs to be an officiant as a side job, lol.

It was cute and funny. People definitely laughed when they realized he was referencing the same thing in his vows. We were aiming for funny, sweet and short, and hit the mark pretty much right on. I think the ceremony was maybe 20-25 minutes in all.

That's how I plan ours to be! I don't want a long ceremony at all.
