Did you sign a contract with your florist?

Michelle, on February 7, 2020 at 3:29 PM Posted in Planning 0 15

My fiance's sister went to Kroger for her wedding party flowers and they were actually beautiful and a great price! I picked up the flowers for fiance's sister last year and made payment. She referred me to the florist there who I've been speaking with. This lady is very passionate about flowers and I've seen her work and really like it. She quoted me a decent price too.

I'm just not sure how it works with grocery stores because she had to order in the gold vases I ordered for my centerpieces. I have the centerpiece samples already and I loved it. She sent me an invoice from the supplying company which shows it was shipped to Kroger and it sounds like she's kind of doing it as her side thing rather than through Kroger and she mentioned that it'd be cheaper that way. So I'm a bit nervous to send out a check to her. I'd feel more comfortable if she had some contract written up even if she was doing her own side thing (even though she probably shouldn't be at work lol).

Simply put.... GET EVERYTHING IN WRITING! Even if it’s her side huddle get a contract or you create one to be signed.

I was googling some simple contracts vendors typically use and thinking of e-mailing her and having us both sign it before sending anything. Just to cover my butt.

Can someone send me a blank copy of how theirs look?

Attorney here. I would never hire a vendor without a contract. I’ve seen so many people get screwed without one because they trust someone, they’re friends or family, they have good references, whatever. My fiancé wanted to hire a photographer who didn’t “believe in contracts.” There’s just too many ways that can blow up in your face. If you haven’t sent any money yet, you could ask if a simple contract is a possibility. Otherwise I’d look elsewhere.

I haven't sent any money yet. I'm going to ask her if we can draft up a contract together just stating what will be provided, even date, event location, event time, cancellation/refund policy, substitutes, quote, items/flowers provided, etc. everything we discussed for both of us to sign.

Yes, I signed a contract! That protects the florist and yourself. I believe most reputable vendors will have a contract in place just in case something happens.

Thanks all. I just wrote up a contract. If she doesn't want to sign or work on an agreement, I'll go directly through Kroger or another shop if needed just for the peace of mind lol.

Contracts are a must! We signed a contract with every vendor! It is the only thing that protects you if anything goes wrong. If she refuses to sign a contract, I would look elsewhere.

Thanks for the feedback. She said even if I go directly through the store they don't do contracts lol but she said she'd sign one anyway.

That is so odd. You would think she/they would want to be protected too. Oh well. At least she is willing to sign one and you will be protected!

    And, you’re welcome!
