My venue offers a choice of caterers and while I'm 90% sure that I know which one I want to use but I would like to taste them first. She is not available for a tasting until Jan or Feb and she can't promise me she can hold the date.. Should I go ahead and book her (reviews are amazing) or should I...

Our venue included catering - we booked before the tasting. we had eaten at the restaurant onsite beforehand, though.

Do you like the items that are listed on the menu? I think you're safe to book if you like the food that's on the menu and the caterer got good reviews. We are having our reception at a restaurant and we weren't able to taste the wedding food when we booked our venue but I had family that had eaten off their regular menu and vouched for it. We went back for a tasting a couple months ago and it was AMAZING. It was definitely stressful booking without tasting but we trusted them and everything tasted amazing.

I'm not doing a tasting because it wasn't an option with my DW, so I relied on the reviews

I did not taste til after booking. But our venue only allows that caterer so I took the risk.

Before! 100% taste before you book if at all possible!

I think that's called cannibalism and that's pretty frowned upon lol. I tried some catered food with FH but it was for a party not for the wedding along with two other board members. They were nice, but super pricey and the turkey was awful dry.

I think the wedding would have been called off if I was going around tasting our vendors. lol

I would totally recommend tasting before booking. Unless they are very highly regarded in your area.

Me and FH have a group tasting in Feb for our potential caterer. I don't think I would be comfortable booking a company that I haven't tasted yet. The fact that they say they are not sure if they can hold it, is obviously true but if that is the case then so be it. You will have to keep looking. Are you willing to risk it? And end up not liking the food at all since you didn't get to do a tasting? I know I personally wouldn't be able to go forward with it!

Please taste the food, not your caterer. #grammarmatters

We didn't taste the food before we booked, but my father has eaten at our venue before so we weren't particularly concerned.

We're celebrating after our ceremony at a restaurant that we both absolutely love. So, we've been able to taste some of our menu options :-D

We did our tasting first. I'd be a little scared to do a tasting after booking.

We tasted before, but were pretty set on it beforehand based on people telling me we needed to. Then as soon as FH took a bite he said, yep, this is what we're having. It was that good.

I did before, but I was getting it on my own separate from the venue, my venue does not include any vendors.

Our venue stopped offering tastings but I fought with them and got one. It was after I booked.
