Did anyone skip flowers?

Did anyone skip flowers altogether? I'm considering just getting my mom and fmil bouquets (I know flowers are important to them) and skipping flowers as table decorations, etc. Did you do something else instead? We're using model airplanes as centerpieces--would they look too bare without something...

Did people react to your lack of flowers? Did they even notice?

My mom and one of my friends have made me think I'm a little nuts for considering this! My alternative plan is to order bulk Costco white filler flowers and baby's breath just to use as -something- but nothing fancy.

So true about the flowers, Celia. Despite the "they will die" mantra, they are one of the few things from your wedding that will still be around the next day -- actually they should last for up to a week if they've been properly prepped and remain hydrated (you may have to pull a stem here or there, but generally, they're in pretty good shape for days after your wedding).

One of the brides here actually introduced me to the organization, www.repeatroses.org, and I just love the idea! Every week I see such beautiful flowers being wasted after the fact, and while the joy they bring during the wedding is amazing, to be able to spread that joy is very, very cool too.

I've had a couple of couples do centerpieces with antique books, feathers, steampunk elements, and they've all been pretty amazing. In the end, I'm not quite sure they were less $$ than a simple floral thing, but they certainly did speak volumes (no pun intended, lol) about the couple.

My 'centerpieces' were literally a chunk of sod, ringed with spanish moss and studded with bedding plants, little feather birds, some rocks, wicker little nests and some other weird stuff. We built them right on the tables, and they were really cool.....

I like your idea with the filler flowers- we used floating candles.

we didn't skip flowers all together, I had my bouquet with flowers I picked out at the market, and put the left over flowers in a vase on the cake table.

I was going to put flowers with the candles, but we had to cut back, and I decided the floating candles were pretty alone Smiley smile

You can get vintage colored bottles and use a single flower in them. And as far as that goes, it doesn't even have to be a flower. A stem from a fern is also pretty. Use one color, or mix and match the bottles, clear, green, amber, cobalt blue...

I am having bouquets/bouts/corsages, but no other ceremony or centerpiece flowers. I'm sooo not a fan of flowers. When I moved into my house there was a huge flower garden in the backyard and one of the 1st things I did was rip it up. Terrible, right?
