Did anyone not hire a Dj?

Ashlyn, on September 30, 2018 at 12:00 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 8
Our wedding is in November and it’ll be about 75 people. Our budget is pretty tight and I was just wondering if anyone had their wedding without a DJ? I was maybe thinking a guitarist for the ceremony then just having a playlist going for the reception? The venue has speakers and everything that I can use so just curious on some of yalls thoughts! Thank you!

Every wedding I’ve been to that didn’t have a DJ or band didn’t have much dancing. If you are picturing everyone on the dance floor all night I would really invest in a DJ but if you’re fine with a more laid back vibe a playlist is fine.

Im not gping to be hiring a DJ. Personally i dont think you really need one unless your having a large wedding where it would just be to inconvenient or problimatic to hook up your phone/ipod/whatever to a sound system

I agree with that last comment! I was recently at a wedding of about 100 people, and they just used an ipod and sound system. It did take some extra coaxing to get people to dance--first commenter was right-- but if you have a particularly outgoing friend who can make announcements and encourage people to dance there's nothing wrong with going without a dj!

The DJ does way more than just play music. They can help with planning out your timeline, make announcements to the crowd, and make sure the guests stay engaged and on the dance floor. Just having a playlist doesn't do that. Definitely not something to skip. I'd find another way to save money.

I personally think a dj is not something you can compromise on. Djs set the whole tone of the evening and help with the flow of everything. They make announcements, introduce you and FH and the bridal party, get everyone dancing. I’ve never been to a wedding without a dj that had people dancing. I really think the dj is not something to cut from a budget.

We are doing a playlist for our reception. I decided on this option because it is a perfect reflection of the both of us. Plus it's through our amazon prime account. So if there are song request, we can accomidate.

Not having a dj for our wedding. Just a playlist and speaker.

There were plenty of things we were willing to trim from the budget but music wasn't one of them. I really wanted a dance party reception and a DJ is the best way to get that.

The DJ sets the tone for the night IMO. They make announcements, make the songs flow, and play songs that they see are keeping people on the dance floor.

If you want a lot of dancing at your wedding I'd think about getting a DJ. If not, then the playlist would probably be good.
