Did anyone get their invitations hand-cancelled?

I really want to do it but the man at the post office is kind of a grump and I'm scared to ask him lol. Has anyone done this and did the post office worker not mind, or did they hate you for it? Any advice or experience doing so? We only have about 30 invitations to be sent so it wouldn't take...

I really want to do it but the man at the post office is kind of a grump and I'm scared to ask him lol. Has anyone done this and did the post office worker not mind, or did they hate you for it? Any advice or experience doing so? We only have about 30 invitations to be sent so it wouldn't take terribly long, not any longer than sending a package would.

Note: I do know that hand cancelling is not necessary. I still want to do it.

    If you want it, ask politely. Honestly, every letter sent goes through a machine at some point. One of my best friends is a postmaster and she says they do this often to ease a bride's mind but it has little purpose.

    I gave them to them in small batches as I got them done. Mine had a string tied around the center so it was somewhat necessary.

    I saw that BILs wasn't hand cancelled so I really don't know how many they did or didn't.

    I didn't get my photo post card STDs hand cancelled and like all of them showed up messed up

    I live in Philly and took it to the first post office in the US and they hand cancelled them. It is 10 minutes from my house and they stamp it with Ben Franklins signature. It was cool! Not all post offices do it. I had to pay a small free after the first 50.

    I'm going to have an outside envelope and an inside envelope so hopefully the outside one will be more to protect the invite.

    I wouldn't worry about whether they hate doing it or not -- its their job Smiley smile Its just a marking to void the postage from being removed and used again. This way it saves your invites from being shredded in their machinery.
