Did anyone add spaghetti straps to add more support to strapless? Thinking it won’t do much?

Hannah , on June 22, 2019 at 6:20 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 14
Not sure spaghetti straps would do much to keep my dress up so does anyone have any feedback on this? I need more support but having a really hard time figuring out what straps to add

I have strapless dress and I’m using the extra tulle they cut off for off the shoulder straps that can be pulled up for the reception and create support.

I think you posted earlier about concerns about your strapless dress not staying up/providing enough support for your chest? If that was you, I don't think spaghetti straps are going to do much to help. I'd meet with a professional seamstress and talk about options. I'd guess something more substantial than spaghetti straps or tulle will be needed to provide the support you want. A professional alterations person will be able to assess how much structure/support the bodice currently provides and how that can best be enhanced, with straps or maybe other adjustments, so you feel more comfortable and supported. A good seamstress is worth the cost. It took four appointments and MULTIPLE adjustments to get the top of daughter's dress to fit exactly right, but once it did? Oh, man! She looked amazing for the 10+ hours she was in her dress. She went to a wedding recently where is was really clear the bride didn't have the alterations she really needed and it very much affected the way her dress fit and how she looked in it. (Unfortunately, it wasn't great....) Good luck! Smiley heart

Yes that was me!!! Thank you so much for your response! Clearly I’m still panicking LOL my biggest concern was comfort from day 1 of dress shopping so to find out today from the seamstress that I will need to add straps or it’s going to fall down was upsetting. The people at the bridal store when I first tried it on said it won’t be a problem just have it really tight for the day. I’m just trying to figure out my options. I may get a second opinion. I’m a size 2-4 with 34 DD chest so idk why this is such a problem Smiley sad ok end rant lol

Hannah that was my initial concern with myself too! I’m a size 2-4 and a 32F and strapless is not an option as I don’t want to show anything. For me, the tailor will be adding more lace appliqués around the entire neckline. It’s long sleeve so I don’t need additional support. In your case o think adding more than straps will help. Maybe they can create an illusion neckline to help lift the bust line?

My dress has spaghetti straps. It hung really loose and when the straps were altered it fits so much better! Spaghetti straps can help imo. For reference I'm a b cup.

This was my jr prom dress from high school. It had small, removable, spaghetti straps. Somebody stepped on the bottom of the dress and broke one of the straps. The dress stayed up WAY better before they broke.

Did anyone add spaghetti straps to add more support to strapless? Thinking it won’t do much? 1

Daughter is a thin, 36DD. Her dress had a low back and thin, jeweled straps. Surprisingly, the dress was actually too big in the chest for her (she's used to things being tight in the bust when they fit her elsewhere). The good news was her dress had a LOT of built in structure (e.g., boning, very shaped chest, etc.). The seamstress said the dress fitting right was all about it being close fitting in the waist and ribcage, so the structure could do it's job. She actually lengthened the straps a little, because she said straps should never provide the support, so they shouldn't be "tight." For her alterations, they took her dress in a little in the side seams (to get that close fit on the rib cage), and added pretty significant push-up pads/cups (which was the last thing daughter thought she'd need, since she's pretty well endowed naturally). The trick was getting the pads in the right place so they lifted her breasts "up" without "squishing them into the center." She did NOT want to look like "the St. Pauli Girl" logo (her words...). It took a lot of find tuning to get everything exactly right. Prior to alterations, we tried every possible strapless/backless/stick-on bra option and nothing worked the way daughter wanted it to. For her, it was all about alterations to make the dress fit her like a glove without being too tight (and GOOD POSTURE! Smiley winking ). Good luck!

Agree the MOB. I am a 34G and I have a strapless dress. It has an invisible built-in corset inside. The strong structure in the bodice made me very comfortable. After the seamstress did a few alterations, it fit like a glove and I don't need any bra. I have never felt more secure in that area lol.

And just FWIW, daughter had four different alterations appointments, and at the last one, she was probably in and out of the dress at least 6 times and the appointment lasted over 2 hours. (I think, total, her alterations cost about $400, but they didn't do any major changes, just a LOT of little tweaks.... At one point, they were talking about completely remaking the bodice to make it smaller on top. That terrified daughter, so she went with basically "filling" the space that was already there.) I will say that, after the wedding, she had a couple friends tell her her chest "looked amazing" in her dress (which seems kind of weird, but much better than her friend who people probably didn't say anything to because her dress fit terribly and it did not "look amazing"). For the well-endowed (and maybe everyone???), I think good alterations are critical for the dress to look it's best. Good luck!

Hi, I added spaghetti straps. They hold my dress up! Just kind of bummed since I like the dress without the straps.
