Did anybody else not get an engagement ring?

I refused an engagement ring. I thought I would feel like marked property if I wore a ring while he didn't. We used part of what he had saved for a ring to go into the house we bought (we loved it, but its original 24-year-old air conditioner and furnace made us nervous - although it did take a year before we ended up having to replace them), and part is going to having a semi-open bar at our reception.

Nope, no ring! He actually proposed to me back in may 2016 but I was pregnant and didn't want to get engaged just because of that. He assured me it wasn't, but I still felt weird. Anyway, we had better things to save for and he wanted me to be able to pick what I like. So we postponed our engagement until new years 2017 when I proposed to him. Then we agreed that we would just buy wedding rings, not engagement because 1) finances and 2) we had each proposed so it didn't feel like just one of us should get an engagement ring, and he didn't really want one anyway, so I just designed my dream wedding ring and didn't worry about an engagement one.

Not quite the same, but my fiancee proposed with a sterling silver bow ring that he bought for $10.00; he asked me if I would "tie the knot" After six months we upgraded to a traditional ring, and I wear my bow on my right hand.

My coworker did not get an engagement ring or wedding ring. It was very odd to me.

Paula, Yes it does sound a bit strange not getting a wedding ring... Were definately getting wedding rings but I'd secretly love a huge diamond engagement ring too !

Like without an engagement ring next to it, a band with diamonds is clearly a wedding band and not just another ring, I guess? (I tend to just wear plain metal thin bands on other fingers and always have.)

I didn't see a point of an engagement ring. We pretty much proposed to each other. We've been together for a long time, have two beautiful daughters and love each other dearly. That's all that matters. We're getting married next year October. What's the point of engagement rings when we're going to get wedding bands anyway? To me, it's just a waste of money. The love that we share shines brighter than any ring my fiance could put on my finger...

My fh proposed without a ring and bought it a week later. He said his plan wasent for like another 6 months but at that moment in time he felt that was the right time to do it. He still surprised me with it and actually that's a funny story in itself. He ordered it and was having it come ups. He told me that day he is having something delivered and it's really important so please watch for it. So I did. Well ups pulled up and I waited. He didnt get out of the truck and drove off. I ran down the road after the ups truck lol. Caught him at his next stop which was just around the block. Turns out fh didnt put the apartment number and it was my engagement ring so I chased after my ring lol. He likes to joke j must have really wanted it even though I didnt know what it was

I have an e ring, but didn't opt for a band. I
Feel like the e ring is enough.

I told him he didnt have to have a ring because I was tired of waiting

I always told my FH that I didn't want an expensive ring, in fear I would lose it. He ended up making me a band made from purple heart wood. I feel weird when people ask to see the ring, expecting a big diamond. I always say "He made it" to prove that he actually put thought into it.

This will be a second marriage for both of us. We are a bit alternative and are planning on a couples tattoo, a tattoo ring for him, and ring for me He doesn’t like jewelry and is a musician so he’s guitarist. My point is do what makes you happy. There are no real rules.
