DFW wedding on a budget venue help please???

Leandra, on April 29, 2016 at 2:09 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 24

Hi, I live in the Dallas-Ft.worth area, I am looking to have a wedding and reception in one venue inside with up to 200 people for under $1000 if DIY, or up to $2000 with linens and decorations included. This budget is for the venue only not counting food or anything else. I am not a native to this area so I really don't know alot of places to look at. Any suggestions and help would be greatly appreciated.

I'll be completely honest and say that there's no way you'll be able to pull off a wedding for this price. Cut your guest list. Stat.

The venue search doesn't let you search by price and alot of the actual wedding venue spots are out of my budget.

I agree with Amber it will be really hard or impossible to pull off a 200 people wedding at that price

Nope, Im in a very rural and relatively cheap area and my 100 person wedding is close to 11K. Cut the guest list to immediate family and exceptionally close friends. like under 20 ppl

You should get it catered. Bbq or Italian are usually the cheapest options, ask for a drop off and hire a couple servers. $1k is too low for 200 people, definitely cut the list down.

Are you hiring a photographer with that budget?

1 you cant do that. Do a search and you'll see why. 2 even if self catering was an option you'd still average around $5-$8 per person times 200 is???.... ****. now add in everything else you would need and nope bye bye budget.

So then whats your overall budget? Food and Beverage is the most expensive, then venue, cake, attire, lastly everything else. 200 people is going to get very expensive very quickly.

Did you use the search bar for "self catering"?

The venue fee at several places I looked at got waived. I'm in Dallas. I would encourage you to not use the Highland Hotel on Mockingbird and 75. I'm using The Magnolia Downtown and they waived the venue fee because we are doing reception and block hotel rooms.

^^ Thats awesome. I'm assuming that you have to use their catering services for the reception?

I'm confused...$1K (which doesn't include decorations) or $2K (which includes linens and decorations) is your venue budget? You're looking for a space that will hold 20 - 25 full tables for $1K, or 20 - 25 full tables with linens and decorations for $2K (decorations? What does that mean?).

    What's your food budget?

I'm getting the feeling that you have a guest list you can't possibly afford to host properly -- unless, of course, you have another $10K to feed them (and that's assuming that there are caterers in your area who can supply wedding fare at $50 PP -- a price that is unheard of in my area). Even if you can find a venue at that very low price point, you'd have to be sure that outside catering is permitted. At best, you might be able to do a pasta heavy entree for $20 PP, and that's going to cost you $4K. Can you afford that? What about alcohol? What about apps?

Experience tells me that your guest list needs to be cut by 60%, at least. It's far better to host a smaller guest list beautifully than it is to serve a massive guest list minimally. Remember, those guests sitting at those 20 - 25 packed tables will look around the room and figure it all out.

I wish you the best in your search, but honestly if that is your budget you should do a very small and intimate dinner with very close family and friends. I am certainly not trying to get you down about your budget. I am trying to get you to be realistic. You will not be able to host 200ppl with that budget.

@Centerpiece, you cant see me but I'm applauding.

@OP, we can definitely help you with sound advise but we need a clearer picture. Whats your overall budget? Does that budget include things like centerpieces, invitations, dress, tux, etc? Are you wanting to host a meal time wedding or a cocktail wedding? What time of day? These all matter GREATLY when looking at cost

Best place for a budget such as 1k to 2k is a city funded park, or vfw hall.

Look up the springs in rockwall. It's located in poetry tx about 30 minutes from Dallas.

My friend had her wedding there. It's a large space and very diy. I'm not sure of the price. You'll have to call and ask.

Outdoor spaces, parks, VFW halls, and a few venues further north might fall under $1k. How much is your total budget/how much are you budgeting for catering? 200 is a lot of people. We were married in The Colony (just north DFW) and spent $13k total for 125 guests - catering was around $5k of that.
