Just Said Yes January 2017

Detroit Institute of Arts

I am planning my wedding in January 2017. I want to have a wedding at either the Detroit Institute of Arts or The Eagle Tavern at The Henry Ford Greenfield Village. Both places require that you use them for the food. My concern is the DIA menu which is about half what the Henry Ford charges. Has anyone had a wedding at the DIA?

I've never been to a wedding at the DIA but I would KILL to get married in the Diego Rivera room. Omg please do it.

The food at G'field Village is expensive like crazy. Are you having the ceremony at the Martha Mary Chapel?

How would you handle parking at the DIA?

Love both but if I were choosing, I'd go with dia. The lower cost of food is a real bonus too.

My friend is an event planner at the Henry Ford. All their venues are absolutely gorgeous, but you're right, they are crazy expensive.

The DIA is AMAZING. I've never attended a wedding there, though. Do they let you do a tasting? I wouldn't be too concerned that the food is cheaper, though. That doesn't mean it's bad.

The DIA hosts beautiful weddings, and I have never heard anyone complain about the food. I would look at each location and make your decision based on what you're imagining your wedding to be like. They both have very different looks.

Thanks ladies. I think a tasting would be in order, as Lori suggested. I really want to do the DIA since that is where we had our very first date. I am getting married at the Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrement downtown. We looked at doing the ceromony at Martha Mary Chapel, but we did not think a catholic priest would agree to having the ceromony there, since the church stipulates that marriage would be conducted in Catholic Church.

I've heard amazing things about DIA! If I remember correctly it is pretty pricy too but not nearly on the same level as Henry Ford.

Henry Ford was going to cost us 30,000k just to walk in the door. Like for food, tables, linens...and that was it.

Ooh Blessed Sacrament is such a beautiful church! We have gone to several wedding masses there and then to the receptions in the suburbs. If you're looking to stay downtown, a few friends had their reception at the DYC but you would need to be sponsored by a member.

We also attended receptions at the casinos downtown.

I just had a wedding at the DIA this past Wednesday (weird day I know haha). All of my guests raved about how delicious the food was, and the DIA's service was absolutely awesome! They set up the room for us, served all of the food, and provided any extras we needed. I definitely recommend this venue to anyone who is considering it.
