Destination wedding welcome bags

Kim, on September 1, 2017 at 3:54 PM Posted in Planning 0 10

I'm getting married August 26, 2018 in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico!! I really want to make welcome bags for each of our guests, we should have about 30 people. I'm just not sure what would be the best idea... to get an extra suitcase and pack everything my self and take it with us (we are coming from Idaho)... or mail it... or maybe there is a better suggestion. I just feel like it will cost a lot to take a huge suitcase full of all of that stuff... but otherwise I am super excited for this wedding. We haven't booked a resort yet, I can't decide which one I like the best. Any suggestions on wedding resorts in Puerto Vallarta let me know, I'm all ears

Could you do a checked bag? I would look at costs and assemble when you get to Mexico. The bag could be a cheap disposable one that you can trash so you won't have to pay for on the way back. Might be cheaper then mailing

I am making mine when I get to the wedding destination with supplies from there, so I don't have to bring anything with me.

I would purchase things from Mexico and assemble there. Bagged chips or treats that are local to the culture would make for exciting welcome bags. And with treats you don't know how well they will travel. If you bring chips they might be crushed by the time you arrive.

We bought some stuff throughout the year and also bought some stuff local once we got to our destination.

We included: water bottles, local snacks, chap stick, Tylenol, band aids, city maps, list of attractions, hotel business cards (included map and both Chinese and English directions - great for taxi drivers that do not speak English), metro card, Godiva chocolate, sanitizing wipes and tissue

ETA: I would only travel with the items you absolutely want to have in those bags and can not get at your destination. For me I only traveled with chap stick, Tylenol, band aids and Godiva chocolate.

Give some thought to not wasting money on things people have already packed in their own suitcase. Who doesn't take their own medications, bandaids, sunscreen etc when they are travelling?

You don't want to buy a bunch of junk that will be tossed in the wastebasket.

"Who doesn't take their own medications, bandaids, sunscreen etc when they are travelling? "

My 20 OOT guests thanked me for everything in their bags. My sister said she used everything. My guests stayed 1-2 weeks in Shanghai, we did a lot of walking so the band aids WERE used.

I stand by what I said only bring the things you really want and think your guests will use. Don't bring anything that you can get there, waste of weight when traveling.

My brother just had a DW in St. Thomas. They went down a few days early, got some local things, little souvenirs, and put them in a big beach/tote bag. They were a nice gesture but most people couldn't take all the stuff back home because it wouldn't fit in their luggage. They also included some rum in the bags and I think all of them but mine and a few others got thrown away because of TSA rules.
