Destination wedding stress

on May 14, 2020 at 9:22 PM Posted in Planning 0 10
Anybody doing a destination wedding? We're getting married in Quintana Roo, mexico, just started on planning on what we want and I'm already feeling the stress. Thinking about hiring a wedding planner and although I'm not so much of a control freak I still feel like I would end up planning everything myself to make sure everything is exactly what I want. I will definitely be flying there a few times before wedding (April 2022). Anybody that can relate and so how did you plan your destination wedding?

How many people will you have at the wedding?

We had a mini DW, and it was stressful but I had to hope for the best. We didn’t visit the location beforehand and had to trust our officiant.
    You’ll have a great day!

Im planning on around 45-50 guests. I want to at least try the food and the cake before hand. Food is more sure the most important part for me since it's a 4 course meal plus snacks, cake, desserts and other finger foods.

Hi 👋🏾. We are doing a destination wedding as well July 2022 it is in Jamaica. I find that it being at an all inclusive resort helps with some of the stress cause you are not worrying about food and accommodation and decor as well as vendors or blowing your budget. Speaking of of budgets that is the first thing I would suggest you do it will help a great deal with planning if you have you budget squared away first and an estimate of how many people you want there. I definitely suggest visiting the place first. We are having ours at Sandals and they have a test drive your wedding package where you visit at a discounted flat rate and get to meet with the wedding planner on site and wedding venues and decor etc. we are heading there in December for that and plan on booking our date then. I’m part of a group on Facebook which has been helpful because there is so little info on destination weddings it’s called destiland also she has a you tube channel as well and she interviews wedding planners and industry vendors as well as destibrides on how they planned their wedding. I found this during all my research and found it helpful with questions I had but couldn’t quite find the answers too. I basically had a vision in mind and I went to Sandals site which also allows you to start planning your wedding vision and picking out decor and create sort of a vision board. Hope this long answer lol 😂 helps some. But feel free to ask me anything else if I know the answer I will share because this destination stuff is not easy. Good luck and congratulations on your engagement 😊

Mine will be at a private venue that will include everything (so I don't have to find my own vendors). It's a beach wedding and the privacy is something important too since I don't want random people walking by, apprearing in my photos and videos during the ceremony. But yes visiting is definitely important although I will be securing it with a deposit before hand. This is preppy much the only private venue within my budget and I love the location and the place itself anyway (from what I've seen on their website and YouTube videos). And thank you! Congrats on you too.

I am planning mine in Jamaica at a boutique hotel. I was stressed at first but chose the resort while I was in Jamaica. I fell in love with it. All the reviews were amazing. Since I stated, over a year ago, it has been super easy. Basically what ever I want I tell them and they will do all the arrangements. The communication has been outstanding, even during the pandemic. The costs have been very clearly laid out, along with cancellation and re scheduling terms. The hardest thing for me, honestly was finding the hair and make up person. Who do you trust? There was only 2 around the area we staying, and no ability to meet them and trial run before the wedding. Being a hot humid place, proper makeup is an essential! Just ensure the resort gives you clear quick communication, and if you gut says it’s not right, then move on from that resort. Also consider adult only or not? All inclusive, or not. Mine is not and I’m feeling the hit of the food and bar costs.

So exciting, congratulations!!! If you already have a venue that includes your vendors like flowers, rentals, photography, and food, you won't need to hire a wedding planner since thats the true benefit of having one. I would recommend hiring a day of coordinator though, absolutely! We are having a destination wedding in Puerto Rico, and pushed back our date to early 2022 in order to ensure people could travel there safely. We are so excited!!

    Congratulations!

My venue in Hawaii offered all service beside the hotel. Although, I think I will end up choosing extras and have to pay on top of the package, because their basic choices are not that what I have in mind. It’s stressful also because I can’t contact the people in charge for photo, make up, flowers, and cake directly.

Congrats! Very excited for you. My FH and I are having our big day in Montego Bay, Jamaica in June 2021. As mentioned before, an all inclusive resort makes things easy for you. I highly recommend one. This helped cut cost on food, entertainment/activities, and the bar. We also have a travel agent that works with the resort's wedding planner. This has taken nearly all the stress off me. I tell the agent what I want and she makes it happen. Just like stress free magic. 🤣 The resort's wedding planning provided us with portfolio for a photographer, musician, etc. It has helped make things a lot easier.

Congrats! My fiance and I decided on a destination wedding in Cancun or its surrounding areas. I tried to get in contact with a travel agent but still haven't heard back from them. What is the name of the venue? I'm still undecided between a resort or private venue. I don't even know where to start.

I found a few in the Riviera Maya area. We ended up going with blue venado, a private venue (look them up on FB). A couple of them never got back to me and the other 2 were out of my budget. My dream venue would've been akiin Tulum but starting price was 20k. I'm not a resort person, plus I wanted a private beach wedding without having random people walking by and ending up photoboming our pictures.
