Destination Wedding Save the Date and Invitation Combo Help!

Sabrina, on March 7, 2018 at 11:52 AM Posted in Planning 0 22

My fiance and I are getting married in Playa Del Carmen Mexico. We decided to send invitations in place of the save the dates a little over a year before the wedding. Anyone know of any places that do unique and very custom work, whether it be online or anyone in long island / nj area? Thanks in advance.

What do you even mean? Just skip the STD and send a regular invite.

A STD announces the wedding 6+ months prior so people reserve the date. The invitation follows a few months before with details.

The thing with destination weddings is that the bride and groom need to jump through a few hoops. One is sending out STDs several months before the date so people can make plans and save. The second is sending out separate invitations closer to the wedding. Sending out a combo just doesn't make sense.

I didn't send out STD at all. I just sent out the invitation 5 months out. Didn't want to spend the money. No one complained just a few people saying they never received the STD.

Yes that's what we are doing. Our invitation is going to take the place of the save the date which will be sent out a little over a year before the wedding so people know what's coming and they have time to prepare.

Yes that's what I mean to do. I'll have to reword the question because you and another person think i'm sending both. I'm sending the invitation in the place of the save the dates a little over a year before the wedding.

No one is going to be able to RSVP a year in advance though.

People may lose the invites if you send them out that far in advance. People probably won’t know if they can go that early. If you don’t want to send paper save the dates look into electronic ones through Paperless Post.

That's not the reason why we are sending it so early. We are sending it so early so people can do what they have to do in order to schedule a mexico vacation at that time. Then they rsvp whenever they want.

I don't think it's a great idea to send an invitation a year in advance. How feasible is it for everyone to keep the invitation in that amount of time? I think this will cause a huge headache down the line. I think save the dates will be fine. And then 2 to 3 months max send the invitations out.

You're sending an invitation over a year early? Does it include an RSVP? If so, your plan just won't work. People will lose the invitation and many won't be able to RSVP anytime soon because they just don't know what the heck they can do in a year.

We are sending that paper invitation with an in depth website on it with all the info, including accommodations, travel and transportation, and rsvp option. Then we will be sending a paper reminder about the wedding a couple months before.

You are doing this completely backwards. Send a save the date with your in-depth website a year in advance. Then send your invitations 2-3 months before the wedding.

I wouldn’t send invitations a year in advance. A few months early is fine but never that far out even for a DW.

Exactly!! There's a reason why brides and grooms do it this way. It works!

That's far too soon for an invitation to go out.

I don't see why you can't just send the reminder before as a Save the Date, then send the invitation in the same time you'd be doing the "reminder". It's not like you're saving money on not doing both, you just reversed them. What's the reasoning for reversing them?
