Destination wedding resort requirements

Allinson, on June 1, 2022 at 1:10 PM Posted in Planning 2 5
Hi all!! My fiancé and I are planning a destination wedding. We found an all inclusive resort we loved and after being provided a 3-night room rate, we were told by our travel coordinator that they require a 4-night minimum stay for all guests. We are worried that some people might not be able to make it for 4 nights. Is anyone else on the same boat? Or has experience with destination wedding requirements?
Now, we don’t know if we should do it at a different hotel that doesn’t require a 4-night minimum. But this is the venue I felt was it! 😩

If you host your wedding there, are all wedding guests required to stay on site? If not, you could still book that as your venue, and let guests decide whether to stay at that hotel or a different one nearby that doesn't have a minimum number of nights (just make sure your guests know in advance that there is a 4-night minimum if they choose to stay at that resort).

    Couple things to think about

    1. Can guests not attend the wedding if they do not stay at the hotel? Of do they have to pay a fee? If they have to pay a fee, figure out what that is, and then (IMO) you should pay that fee for the guests who chose to stay at another resort/hotel. Reason being, 4 nights is a huge ask and not everyone can afford this after flights, rentals, and hotel stays

    2. You cannot require guest stay at the preferred resort for 4 nights. Some may jump at the opportunity for a vacation, but if there are cheaper places they usually go for those. If you have the budget, as an incentive, you can pay for half the stay and they pay the other half. (Caveat to this, you need money up front. Do not go off good faith)

    3. Is there a guest requirement? If you need a minimum number of guest, do you think you can meet that?

I think before you book the venue, you should get as many details on this venues policies and any fees that may come up. That way you can make the determination if this is the direction you want to go in

Yeah, that’s our hesitation. We know most people will be ok with the 3 night. We’ve already talked to most of our guests about the fact that it will be a destination wedding. But the 4 night feels like it’s too much to ask of them. Thanks for your suggestions.

4 nights is too many. Can I ask is the hotel giving you a free or discounted wedding in exchange for guests staying there? If that’s the case, You could offer to cover 2 of the 4 nights for guests.
