Destination wedding invite etiquette

As I solidify my destination wedding logistics I realize that the price point for some of the people both my fiancé and I would like to invite (approximately $1,200 single room occupancy & airfare or $850.00 double occupancy & airfare). Would I offend my potential guest if I send a cost...
As I solidify my destination wedding logistics I realize that the price point for some of the people both my fiancé and I would like to invite (approximately $1,200 single room occupancy & airfare or $850.00 double occupancy & airfare).

Would I offend my potential guest if I send a cost “breakdown” with my save the dates? I was thinking saying something like the hotel rate is..., average airfare..., transportation (including to & from airport)... that way before I get a ton of RSVP’s or over calculate for the reception we will have a better idea of who to expect....

I’ve attended several destinations weddings and I’ve never seen my “cost breakdown “ before so I’m not sure if it would be tacky... your thoughts?

The venue does not charge a fee for people interested in staying off site and I have located a few hotels in the area that will offer a little savings I have also used the wedding wire website tool that searches for hotel blocks. Thus far I’m not having a great deal of luck.. I will keep searching I have a year.. the other dynamic impacting my rate is my wedding date 5/10/20 albeit a Sunday it’s also Mother’s Day.

Yeah my resort wedding coordinator is only helping me plan the big day... I didn’t know PR was so expensive... I originally wanted to do it there but I couldn’t find an all inclusive resort.. mine is $683 for a single occupancy for 3 days or $1366 for 2 ppl double occupancy, and that includes the airport transfers both ways.. it was way cheaper through the travel agent.. good luck Smiley smile

They are actually free... I found one that wanted to charge me, don’t know why.. but there are so many that don’t because they get paid by booking stuff for you.. mine is totally free.. and the lady I’m working with has been very helpful!!

THIS. I’ve worked with travel agents before and have been with the same one for years (and she’s worked at various agencies during that time) and I’ve never been charged a fee and they will be SO helpful with coordinating a group trip. Travel agents can also help get your group discounts on hotels and airfare. Definitely look into it!

Valeriem I have a great travel agent I've used a couple times - she is free. They get a referral fee from the resort is how she explained it when I asked. Message me if you wanr her name! I love her,

In a way yes. Do they have to stay at that hotel? If I was a guest I may be looking for more cost effective ways to go. Ussing hopper for flights. looking for less expensive hotel room.

There are a lot of fake travel agents out. So yes if they are charging you that is a huge red flag

My resort isn’t in San Juan it’s actually in Carolina (Intercontinental San Juan). I used the feee services offered through wedding wire to identify Airbnb’s in the area and I will list them under accommodations on my wedding site.
I think I will look into a travel agent although I’m not sure if I really will need one (but free never hurt anyone).
The accommodations tool on the wedding wire “wedding website” has been awesome it reaches out to hotels for group rates on behalf of you after you answer a few questions. Since this morning I’ve gotten 3 “bids” so I’m getting a few options for my guest.

I just sent you a message.

Also as an aside - I know a lot of people feel it would be rude, but I actually would appreciate a cost breakdown. Destination weddings are expensive and before I decide if I'm going I would not mind knowing how much to expect!

Mine is a little different as we are getting married in a State Park(about 1-3 hours away for our family)For my Save the dates i put the cost breakdown for cottage rentals($342) and nearby hotels($140). We invited some people who aren't computer savvy so thought it would be helpful for those wanting to spend the night or two with us.
You know your family and friends best so i would do what you think would work best.

I’m having a destination wedding. While mine is in Key West, and not out of the country, we have people coming from all as far as Hawaii. I just sent my save the dates last week and included a little card asking them to look at my wedding website for information about the wedding and traveling to Key West. Here, I put links to where I have a room block and whatnot. While I didn’t put the specific amount out there, I made it easy for people to see approximate costs. Airfare is going to change depending on where people fly from.
I wouldn’t put this information directly on your save the dates, but I do feel as if it’s best to have the costs available to your guests. It’s not up to you to determine who can/cannot afford to go. However, since it is a destination wedding, people will know that there will be traveling expenses and should be given the chance to save up if they choose to. Since you have the costs already, I’m assuming you have plans booked through some kind of resort. You could just give them a link to get to that information from the resort itself. As others have said, you could always work with a travel agent to help organize and maybe reduce some of the costs for your guests.

I really like this and instead of sending rates with the save the dates maybe in the newly created Facebook group or could create something like this. I could have something printed for my people who prefer snail mail.

I reviewed all of the suggestions with my maid
of honor and hubby to be and we have collectively decided the following:

Create Facebook group (use the group page to list things to do and Puerto Rico fun facts in addition to estimated cost)

Wedding website- keep it updated with room block information. List Airbnb information and other hotels in the area

Save the date- I won’t put the information on the save the date but we will include an “information card” the card will have the Facebook group information, wedding website information (password to access it because it’s not public), Travel agent information (if I’m able to secure 1 in enough time)

Conversation - if asked we will verbally summarize the estimated cost and refer them to any of the above mentioned...

    i hope this works
