Destination wedding guest etiquette

Samantha, on February 5, 2022 at 9:02 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 6
My friend is having a destination wedding in a foreign country. I will be attending the wedding and reception (I am not a bridesmaid, in case that matters for the answer), but think I would rather skip the welcome party and farewell brunch to go adventure those days instead and make the most of my trip. Would that be rude?

No, it's absolutely not rude. Go do your thing.

As a guest, you are only obligated to attend the ceremony and reception. Everything else is optional. No one should be judging you if you skip out.

I say no. I'm having a destination wedding and those events are basically optional. You only rsvp to the wedding.

Nope, that should be no problem.

Nope, not rude at all! Those extra events are thrown by the couple as additional ways to thank their guests for traveling so far for their wedding. They are there for your benefit (less food and beverage costs for the guests), so attendance is completely up to your discretion.

Noooo! It totally wouldn't be, at least from my perspective. We're having friends travel to the US (and they're not from there) so I would simply want my guests to have fun and think the trip was worth it for more than just my wedding. 😊
