Destination Wedding Dress help!

Kali, on August 7, 2019 at 7:24 AM Posted in Planning 0 7
What have any destination brides done to get their dresses to their wedding destination out of state? I’m considering purchasing mine a plane ticket, I do not want to check my dress or place it in the overhead compartment, shipping it to Disney because the person steaming it will not take it. But I can’t stand the thought of shipping it. What if it gets lost?!

That is always a huge concern with a destination wedding. We live in Maryland and got married in Florida and ended up driving to 15 hours for that very reason. We also had a lot of decor and items that we needed to get to the venue that we did not want to ship and take a chance got broken. If you were on able to drive I think your only option would be to ship it with a reliable service such as Fed ex or UPS

I had my dress shipped to me through fedex for $52 including $900 insurance and I’m going to ship it back for the wedding. It’s a little risky but it’s just a tough situation.

How does one even go about packing a wedding dress for shipping? I was going to drive mine, but it takes up the entire back seat of my car...

I plan on shipping mine to Florida, but luckily it'll be going to the future in-laws place where they can take care of it.

My SIL told me she literally carried her wedding dress for her entire cross-country trip to her destination wedding. This includes on multiple flights and a delay at a lay-over. She wouldn't let anyone touch her dress. 😅

My dress isn’t big enough to be an issue when we’re traveling to our destination wedding. But I’ve been on several flights where girls have carried their gowns on and the flight attendants put them somewhere safe. Try calling the airline and asking what their policy is. Also, since you are going to Disney, you could ship it to yourself at your hotel. If you mail it the day you leave, it would be there the next day and most hotels allow for you to receive deliveries no problem. Then you could just bring it to whomever is steaming it yourself.

Thank you guys for your input! I called our airline and she said if I bought a seat, I could put my dress there. So we bought my dress a plane ticket....I know I may get some stares, but it’s my wedding dress. I decided I couldn’t part with it and take any chances!
