Destination Wedding diy concerns

Kyulee, on July 11, 2019 at 12:46 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 1 6
Hello!! My 1st post here! My fiancé and I are having a destination wedding just outside of Paris, Sept 26, 2020. We live in NYC though. I still plan to do a lot of DIY (keeping wary of costs of DIY vs hiring a professional) but the $$$ and transportation problem looms over me.

I would LOVE suggestions on semi-portable mediums where I could decorate my signs on and then be able to roll up or fold and fly with. Then I can buy cheap mirrors, posters (?), basically whatever I can find in France to glue it on. I may be complicating things because it’s all just in my head for now. I’m very overwhelmed. I will have a rental company to rent easels and such to place my DIY decor on but really want to keep rentals to a minimum. I don’t own a cri-cut and I feel as though the learning curve will end up being a waste.

**baggage is also not too much of a problem since my brother is an active duty Navy officer Smiley smile last time we flew to Paris as a family of 4, we got 8 free bags!

I really appreciate all your help!!! I love all the DIY ideas I see from these posts. Thank you for the inspiration xx

For signage like that I would probably try to do as many vinyls as you can. They're super easy to put onto a mirror or picture frames. I ordered a nice big one for $20 for my welcome mirror and it looked fabulous!

I completely agree that vinyls are going to be your best friend. You can use them on mirrors, wood, and even posterboard if you need to. Paper crafts - things like personalized programs or menus should be easy enough to transport too. And you 100% don't need to buy a cricut just for wedding things, but if you're at all crafty and would get use out of it afterwards, I'm pretty positive the learning curve wouldn't hold you up. I admittedly do a ton of crafting, but just got a cricut this year for wedding stuff. There are a bunch of intro tutorials, and it's actually super straightforward to use. Hand-cutting vinyl is definitely a challenge, and if you purchase it precut from somewhere like Etsy it's likely to just be from a person using their own cricut.

Hey there!! Congratulations on your engagement! Welcome to the WeddingWire community!!

A wedding in Paris sounds like an absolute dream! Have you been there with your fiancé before?

Vinyl is a great idea for your signage, especially if you were going to buy mirrors and canvases in Paris to use as backing already. They will be super easy and light to back. You should check out Etsy for different options. There are so many to choose from there.

What other decor are you planning on transporting over?
