Destination wedding... dance floor or no dance floor? Help!

Nicole, on January 23, 2019 at 12:35 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 5

We are having a destination wedding in Bimini, Bahamas in April. At one point the resort thought they were going to get a hold of a dance floor from one of the local DJs, but now it's looking like there isn't one available to rent on the island (it's a very small island). We are getting married on the great lawn which is grassy. Does anyone have any ideas for a dance floor, and is it really needed??? My FH and I are big dancers and quite a few people who are coming are big dancers as well. Transporting one would be very pricey, and that's not even including buying/renting the material. Has anyone done something unique/different for their dance floor?

Hey Nicole!! I personally don't like dancing on dance floors and would much rather dance on grass, but that's just me. I can see why it might be nice to have over the grass - maybe there's sprinklers or someone drops a glass and it shatters. It'd be safer for you and your guests if something like that happens.

I suppose you could make your own or use some of the styrofoamy stuff that they have in preschool classes, if you know what I'm talking about. There are a couple of how-tos on Pinterest and YouTube that might be useful to you.

If you're getting married at a resort, have they held a wedding or another event with a dance floor before? Have they run into this problem before and, if they have, what did they do?

Do You really really want the floor or do you just want the space to be defined so that it stands out to say hey this is the dancing area? You can stage the tables and chairs or put some kind of tiki torch's in the grass to make it known this is the dancing area

They used to have a dance floor that they have used for past events. Over the years it has gotten worn and old and they tossed it. They don't host weddings often enough to validate investing in one. A lot of people will rent and transport over to the island, but we were just trying to make it a little cheaper.

I do like dancing on the grass better, I'm just worried about anyone with heels (hopefully not too many will have on heels considering it's a beach ceremony). I thin You're right though, I don't think I am going to worry about it too much. If I come across something that works, GREAT, if not, oh well! Dancing on the grass under the stars doesn't sound half bad ;-).

    Michelle,

I love the idea of tiki torches or something to separate that area from the rest! We are stringing lights over the whole area, but the Tiki torches might be perfect for the dance floor area! Thank you!

Ohhh, I see now. Okay, yeah, that makes sense. And with Michelle's idea of separating the space off with some lighting, I think you'd be fine without a dance floor. People should be able to see what's on the ground a little better and enjoy themselves on the soft grass. Smiley smile

(Dancing under the stars sounds so romantic and beautiful, ugh, jealous.)
