Destination brides (especially international): how do you plan to communicate with your guests?

purplekitten, on March 23, 2015 at 10:45 AM Posted in Planning 0 7

We're doing a destination wedding in Mexico, which means our phones won't work. The resort does have wi-fi, though.

Most of our guests are going to be at the resort for five days. I want to be able to communicate to people things like "Today, the bride and groom are having lunch at XYZ at 12:30; feel free to join us!" or "We're headed to the pool bar for a couple hours if you're looking for us!"

I'd like guests to be able to do the same, so, say, my mom can check and look what my aunt is up to, FH's college buddies can find each other, etc.

Oh, and if we could have a list of people's room numbers stored in the same place, that would also be helpful.

Any suggestions on a good tool to use to do this? What do you have planned to handle this at your destination wedding?

I think there are text messaging apps that work over WiFi. Or use group emails.

GroupMe is a texting app that works over wifi and you can send messages via computer too.

I am handing out welcome bags, and within the welcome bag is a note book, at our Welcome dinner (when we hand out the bags, 1st night there) we are asking everyone to take out their notebook and jot down everyone's room numbers and ext. I am hoping this will help in the communication. Along with the welcome bags is the Hosted wedding itinerary, 1st day arrival - Hosted Welcome Dinner @6pm, 2nd day Hosted Beach Pic-Nic @12noon, 3rd day Wedding and Hosted Dinner, the rest of the week is open for vacations (m-f) By listing the times of the events and locations, if there are any communication issues we can discuss at that time. A group email is a great idea also. Smiley smile

@Mz.Pi2 - What else are you putting in your welcome bags?

So far, we have the bag itself (canvas, with some artwork i designed), personalized tumblers with lids, and sunscreen.

Purplekitten, we are doing, tumblers, two bottles of water, granola bars, Oh Shit Kit – First aid, Chap stick, Sunblock, & Tylenol, flip flops, and wedding party Coupons for either choice of rented snorkel set or buggy board (for Sat. hosted event). We will be handing out one Welcome bag per family, No little kiddos are in the group or I would have added colors and a coloring book. I called ahead and checked with the rental companies for beach play rentals and told them my ideas, Instead of them pre charging me for everything it will be charged as per item rented (just in case people don't use the coupons). Our 2nd day is a Hosted Beach Pic-nic, so it would be fun to have the beach play stuff included. We are personalizing everything ourselves with printable labels.
