Desserts

Lindsey, on January 31, 2020 at 8:53 PM Posted in Planning 0 5
Planning our wedding reception and would like a donut bar, candy bar, popcorn bar, as well as having a separate dessert bar, and wedding cake....this is for about 100 people. How much should we buy if each item?

    Typically three treats per person.

Not to damper your plans, but that’s an awful lot of desserts! Are you sure? My planner said they end up throwing away more than half the cake (a lot of people just don’t really like cake) and a ton of desserts go to waste.... and it’s a lot of money down the drain.
Just something to think about. ❤️

That’s what I was thinking! We had a cake that fed about 1/3 of guests and 3 dessert shots per guest.... almost 1/2 the dessert shots leftover.

If you want cake, I’d suggest adding just a popcorn bar (for those who want less sugar) and a candy bar (as take-home favors and especially for kids).

I’m a baker and went to pastry school as well as a lot of my friends. The pastries are something special to me. I’m trying to limit the amount so I’d go with a smaller cake and have maybe 75 smaller desserts kind of thing. I completely get where you’re coming from and may cut back a little depending on where things are at. The desserts other than the cake would be open all night for people to snack on

I was thinking about having our dessert table open, too, but we're having kids at the wedding and I think they would just camp out there, lol, so I will have the dessert table open after dinner.

We are not having a wedding cake, but rather a large whoopie pie from our favorite whoopie pie place (in Maine), and just small desserts. We were going to get smaller versions of the whoopie pies and send one home with each guest, but not everyone likes whoopie pies, so I don't want a lot to go to waste.

Will you be making your own pastries for your wedding?

It depends on the event space, some places allow you to make your own food other require catering people
