Desserts from Whole Foods grocery store?

orchid21, on March 3, 2010 at 7:46 AM Posted in Planning 0 4

Hi everyone. Smiley smile Have any of you ever ordered the dessert platters from Whole Foods? Would they be nice enough to serve at a dessert reception? We already have a large wedding cake from a separate baker but since our wedding is small (40-70 people) we'd prefer to skip the caterer.

The cake is red velvet with coconut cream frosting and almond with vanilla cream.

Here are the possible dessert platters we could add:

--chocolate dipped strawberries

--miniature tarts: key lime, raspberry, banana, coconut, fruit

--brownies, cookies, and chocolate covered cookies

--cannolis dipped in pistachios and chocolate chips

--bite-sized cheesecakes

--assorted cookies:Banana Chocolate Chunk, Meyer Lemon, Russian

Tea Cake, and Peanut Butter Zebra

Each tray is 20 dollars and serves 10-15pple. Sound reasonable?

I'll talk to the people at the store, of course, but thought it would be fun to get some opinions here about what to order, how much etc. Smiley smile

(We want to have variety without going overboard. Since we already have cake, which of the other desserts would you avoid serving? Do I need to add anything salty? We've already warned people it will be dessert so they won't be expecting hors d'œuvre's).

I would stick to fruity so the flavors don't cash. Also since you are serving cake I would stay away from cookies and heavy pastry's like cannoli. Small tarts might be do able because of the fruit. As far as their appearance if you have any questions just buy your own trays. Most stores are more than glad to fill your tray and some will eve do a discount or extra product because you are saving them money!

Thanks for the replies, everyone. I haven't seen the trays but I'll go check it out soon. Good suggestions, Lora. I have some white platters and tiered serving trays that I might see if they will fill for me.

I'm thinking we'll have red velvet cake, almond cake, mini fruit tarts, chocolate dipped strawberries, and something else chocolate (probably brownies, although that's similar to the cake).

Should I offer any other types of food to balance things out (plain fruit, veggie tray, salty stuff, crispy stuff) or should I just stick to dessert?

Also, anyone have any good non-alcoholic drink suggestions (besides sparkling cider?)

    Thanks!
