Dessert/cupcake Tower Display in Covid Times?

S Kab, on July 27, 2020 at 4:31 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 8

Hello brides,

We are having an outdoor ceremony at a park and this is making things a lot easier with implementing social distancing and other safety guidelines during this pandemic. Since it is a small wedding with family members and close friends only, we are doing a potluck type of meal and some relatives will be serving it to guests. My dilemma is about the dessert. We plan on doing a single tier 8" cake (for cutting) with cupcake tower. I didn't think about how to display the cake and cupcake and even serve it. The bakery is located about 10 minutes from the park so dessert will be delivered closer to serving it. Has anyone seen a creative way to keep germs aways from cupcakes while on display? As much as I'm not a fan of this thought, FH and I will likely be wearing masks while cutting the cake or just hold our breath while cutting it just for the picture :-)

Ideas are welcome!!

The only thing that I can imagine is if each cupcake is already boxed or if you have covers over The displays. Similarly to how there are cake stands that have covers

Other than individually wrapping the cupcakes or having some kind of clear dome or box over them I’m not sure there is a good way to display them and keep them germ free.
As far as cutting the tier for you two, we are cutting ours at our table away from the dessert being served to the guests so we don’t have to wear masks. I don’t particularly want mask pictures for cutting the cake and holding our breathe isn’t an option, if we aren’t seated at our table we must be masked.

Thanks Melle! I just did a quick google search for individual cupcake containers and found a few options...stacking these may be the next challenge.

Thanks Jessica. I just found the dome plastic cover and will look further into it. As far as cutting the cake, i Will consider cutting somewhere separate from the cupcakes so that it’s just me and FH and no need for mask.

I agree about the individual boxes and I'd ask the bakery to take care of it so that they are packaged under food service/handling conditions. For ease, I'd just have the boxes set out on a table or on trays -- I definitely wouldn't try to stack them. If you haven't yet, I'd talk with your bakery, they've certainly had to come up with ways of doing things to comply with new health code regulations. Good luck!

I hadn’t discussed this with the bakery yet. Our cake tasting is actually coming up this Saturday so we will discuss packaging options. Thanks for the reminder to do that.
