Dessert the table instead of big cake?

Finally mrs.jkr, on February 14, 2015 at 8:49 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 13

Okay, so we're now planning on having a dessert table instead of a cake... We're already having cookies as the place settings, we were trying to think of what we need to put in our dessert table... We're going to have a small cake for us to cut and are thinking some cupcakes (mini ones) maybe some cream puffs? Cinnamon rolls (the place we're looking at has mini ones) maybe some chocolate strawberries?

What would talk want on a cake table after lunch at a wedding? And I don't need enough for everyone of each type, right? People can just get what they want when it's time as long as we provide a decent amount and variety?

Umm... why are you planning a dessert table over cake? you should do what makes you happy, but next to the dress, nothing says wedding to be like a big beautiful tiered cake!

but then I also make them, so I'm biased. Smiley smile

if you're asking for votes, I vote cake. seems that most either want a dessert or they don't. I just wouldn't give up a cake to please others if a cake is part of your dream. and it was part of mine!

Oh, not giving it up for others. All the bakeries we can afford are booked out for cakes that are big and layered, but they can still do cake tables/ dessert tables and we're having to figure this out now Smiley smile

I think a dessert table could be cool as there will be variety for people who aren't fond of cake, and you are still doing the iconic cake cutting. I would offer cupcakes, brownies, mini pies and candy

We're doing a pastry table and then a small cake to cut. They're going to cut up the cake and put it on the dessert table in case anyone really feels they need to have cake. I don't like cake and never eat it at weddings so this is one thing I don't care about at ours!

We are opting for the dessert table as well. Small cake for us, have the traditional cutting of the cake, but for the guests there will be cupcakes, cookies, brownies, etc. I've been to too many weddings where people just don't like the cake. Plus, for our situation it is more cost effective to do it this way.

We have also opted for a dessert table...we will have one Boston cream cake, one chocolate truffle, and one yellow and buttercream cake, two Apple pies, mini eclairs, mini cream puffs, and chocolate covered strawberries. We will have enough cake to feed people one small slice between the three options. For the remaining desserts there will be enough portions for each person to have two.

We did a dessert table and it was a huge hit. Go for it! And yes, people will choose what they want, so you don't need enough of each thing for everybody.

In my circle there is always a dessert table, even if there's still cake. We're doing the same thing, small cake and variety of desserts.

Thanks everybody! Cheesecake sounds excellent too! I'll keep these ideas in mind. We love all the sweets at this bakery and even though we wanted a pretty bigger cake, the dessert table fits well with our occasion as well! Mmmm brownies.... Now I want chocolate

We are doing both, but sticking primarily to pies, cookies, etc for the dessert table. We are also ordering a little less cake since we figure people will not do both. The dessert table came with our menu anyway, so we will take advantage.

We are doing a dessert table with a small cake for the traditional cutting. We will have mini cheesecakes, mini cupcakes, mini pies, and individual servings of bread pudding. I love the idea of a variety of desserts and I think most guests appreciate it too
