Dessert Tables

Ashley, on February 21, 2022 at 3:56 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 3 8

I've been going back and forth on what to do for desserts for our day. Neither of us really like cake but will be asking his grandma to make a VERY small cake for just the two of us to cut. We thought about doing individual pies since our wedding is in late fall but now I'm not so sure. I've also thought about getting some Costco apple and pumpkin pies and then also having cookies or brownies and pumpkin bars.

My new thought is to do some sort of dessert grazing table and have a handful of different desserts. Since our wedding is right after Halloween, we are hoping to pick up some big bags of Halloween candy to have on the tables for everyone to eat and potentially take home with them. For the grazing type table, I thought about having small cheesecakes (finger food size), small brownies, cookies, cake pops, etc. I'm not sure on the specifics and am open to any ideas. I want to stray away from the usual cupcakes and cake as I think there are so many other options out there.

If you cut a cake, you should have enough cake for your guests to have a piece. As far as a dessert grazing table, I would talk to a good local bakery and see what they can help you out with.

There are about of options. Look around at your local bakeries for ideas. One of the cake bakers I looked at also makes dessert cups, like banana pudding, Oreo cheesecake, and other creations you eat with a spoon. They looked really fun. I think if you can get one place to make all the desserts, that would be less work for you to coordinate.

I agree with the other poster that if you have cake, there needs to be enough for all guests. If you don’t like cake, don’t have one for cutting pictures. Cupcakes are also cake so stay away from that as well if you want to avoid cake altogether.

For cutting pictures, you can use any dessert. Feed each other a bite of pie or brownies. Anything associated with fall would be awesome: pies, brownies, etc. Try to make sure there is enough for everyone to sample each thing. With a dessert spread, you don’t need candy on top of that, and not all guests will take it home. You can have food service take out boxes for leftovers to send home with guests.

My FH said I was not allowed toake our wedding cake. I appreciate that he wants me to experience everything without stressing or getting upset it isn't perfect. So we have decided on a dessert table. Their will be a variety of items for people to choose from and for the people who won't get over that there won't be a wedding cake our venue offers cake slices.
What do you and your FH enjoy dessert wise? I have heard their are food trucks, see if the venue offers anything or works with a specific bakery.

My sister and her husband cut a cheesecake since that's what they preferred over traditional cake and then had bite size cheesecakes for guests. Don't do cake if you don't like it, just because it's traditional doesn't mean you have to. I agree with a PP though that if you do a cutting cake, you need enough cake for guests (even if you get a sheet cake for guests)

Given the season of your wedding, I think pies would be a great idea! (And even if it wasn't a Fall wedding, it's your day - if you two want pies, why not have pies?)

My philosophy with anything (especially wedding stuff) is do what makes YOU happy. You don't want cake and cupcakes ... cool! What desserts do you two like? Yes, consider your guests as well, but the easiest place to start is thinking about the two of you.

Also, genius for thinking about all the candy you can get since the wedding date is around Halloween!

Ooooh fun! As you mentioned pies are a great idea, you can also do an icecream/sorbet bar, cannoli, brownies and blondies, donuts/donut holes, mousse cups, mini parfaits, mini tiramasu, cake pops, your favorite cookies, zabaglione and fresh berries, cream puffs, banana pudding, cheesecakes (or cheesecake stuffed strawberries so goooooood), for something totally different you can do a pretzel bar with a variety of sweet options and dips. So many dessert options to choose from! Do either of your families have a dessert that must be at a family function. Have fun!
