Dessert tables

Kaitlyn, on July 17, 2019 at 12:31 PM Posted in Planning 1 12
So, I’m inviting 130 people to my wedding, but expect 100 to come. I was wondering for your dessert table if you did only a few options like 3 with a lot of the option...or if you’re doing many options with not as many of the desserts. I feel like I want to do many options so everyone has something they like, but I fear we will run out if one items is very popular. Please help!

I did a traditional wedding cake but I’ve been to many weddings with dessert bars. Some with lots of choices and when they run out your just out of luck and others where they have a few choices and they typically have several of each available. Honestly it’s up to you. People can’t get upset if they didn’t get what they wanted because you can’t have one of everything for each person. Do what you like. Good luck

I think 3 is the perfect number of options! But also what table look do you want? For example, cake plus two cupcake options looks so uniform. Or a buffet of different dessert options then maybe smaller amounts of donuts, cookies, cake pops, brownies, pie. Or cake pops with a lot of candy options.

We invited 155 and are planning for around 120. My family is Italian and our wedding theme is Italian/Mediterranean. We are going to have two smaller cakes, one his choice and one her choice. We will have a platter of Pizzelle (Italian wedding cookies), a tier of cannoli, and cream puffs. So smaller amount of each dessert but more variety.

How many are you planning on doing for each dessert? That’s what I’m thinking I’m going to do. I’m doing a two tiered cake. (But my fiancé & I don’t like cake so we want options lol)

My FH doesn’t care for cake, so we’ll have a small cake and a variety of cookies for him. We’re only expecting about 65, but I’m thinking I’ll stick to two (maybe three) kinds of cookies just a couple dozen of each. If we are allowed to have a campfire🤞🏻 (we’re using a group campground for ceremony and reception) I’m planning to get s’mores stuff too.

I think 3 is a good amount. If someone comes up after 1 item is gone, they can choose from the others or not have dessert. There have been many weddings that I have skipped dessert because of fruit in the cake, but it’s not an issue.

I agree that picking 3 desserts and having a variety of those is better! You could have cookies, cupcakes, pastries, etc. and provide different flavors of each!

We had 6 cupcake flavors and probably planned for 2.5-3 cupcakes per person (we're a big dessert family). I had probably 2 dozen leftover that were mainly 2 flavors - but since we had so many per person, I dont' think it was a big deal that we "ran out" of a couple.

I think the more options you have, the more you need per person to cover for the more popular. Or your baker shoudl be able to give you an idea of what are better sellers/more popular and maybe just have a higher number of those and then a few other options.

Our baker suggested to have enough of each dessert for every person to have one. Because most people will want to try one of everything (I’m totally guilty of this). So we are making sure to have enough for everyone of the selection. Minus the one gluten free option since I don’t think that will get as high of interest.

We're doing a small 2-tier cake and about 3-4 other desserts. Cookies, lemon bars, brownies and one other. We have a smaller guest list of about 35 so we don't want to go overboard with the options

I have about the same # of guest and I choose 3 options with equal amounts. I was told the more options you have the more likely guests will take multiples, so they recommended 3 options.
