Dessert table...

Pang, on October 2, 2019 at 7:07 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 16
Hi guys. I love the idea of a dessert table. But I'm also having a 4 tier cake. Would it be worth the investment or would there just be too much sweets?

My ideal table is to have a donut wall and a table with different desserts like macarons (my guilty pleasure), banana pudding shots (I'm from the South), assortment of cookies, and buckeyes (Fiance is from Ohio).

I will have about a 100 guest but granted since there I will be having cakes too. I wouldn't necessary be feeding all 100 guest with those desserts.
Is anyone planning or had a dessert table and felt like it was too much?

No, we are planning a dessert table, but the main reason is that wedding cake is way too expensive, and most of it won't get eaten. So, we're doing a small one-tier cake for the cutting ceremony, then our guests will choose what they like from the dessert table.

I think that would be so fun but I do agree that would be too many desserts

This is what we are doing as well. I’ve been to too many weddings and it kills me to see the cake put out and never touched. We are having a 2 tier small cutting cake and then having them cut it up and put it on the dessert table with the other desserts so if people want it they can take it.

I agree! I love cake, but wedding cake is one of those weird phenomenons, I think. Nobody eats it. I read an article recently that said as much as 70% of wedding cakes get thrown in the trash. There is no way I'm spending hundreds of dollars on a cake that nobody will eat. I have a good friend who loves to bake, and does an amazing job, and she is going to make our little one-tier cake. If anyone wants it once we've cut into it, they are welcome to have it. But I wanted to give them something more interesting for dessert. Plus, people have different tastes, so I'm hoping to have a variety of desserts, so everyone will find something they like!

I would skip it. Maybe you could do a candy bar or a cookie table as your favors.

Our venue has in house catering and does a choice of a cake or a dessert table and we haven’t decided what to do yet. This is helpful.

We're also doing a dessert table in addition to our wedding cake. Since not everybody likes wedding cake we got a smaller amount of cake and subsidized that with 5 choices of various desserts and 4 different flavored popcorn/kettle corn.

I think dessert tables are fun and add more variety!

We ended up doing cupcakes and a small cake for us to keep. We bought it from Publix. Their bakery is awesome and so inexpensive. Not sure if there’s one where you live. We spent less than $150 on 100 cupcakes and a cake. We had 130 guests and still had about 10 cupcakes left. Everyone raved about the cupcakes.

We decided to skip the cake. We decided to do regular size cupcakes and mini cupcakes, mini cheesecake, mini creme brûlée and chocolate covered strawberries. Everyone will be able to get about 3 desserts if they want them.

A four tier wedding cake seems like a lot to begin with for 100 people. But I’m assuming your baker told you how much you need, and they would know better than me. I personally love wedding cake. I’m the girl who walks out with cake stashed in her handbag and pockets for breakfast the next day. So as long as it’s good cake, people will eat it. If you want to do a dessert table, I would have take home bags or boxes available. All that seems like a lot, but would make a great wedding favor for those who aren’t hungry for it that night. I also like the idea of a dessert table. However instead of a full cake, we are having a cupcake tower with the top layer a small cake for cutting, and the bottom tiers are going to be cupcakes, tiny key lime pies and chocolate covered strawberries. Maybe you could get a smaller cake so you don’t end up with a ton left over.

We are also doing a dessert table with cookies, brownies, and lemon bars along with our cupcakes. Not everyone eats cake so we wanted our guests to have options. We also bought containers so guests can take something home if they don't want to overload on the sweets.

We are having a traditional wedding cake and providing 3 sweet treats (Salted Caramel Brownies, Chocolate covered strawberries and Creme Brulee)!

I think a small tiered cake is fine, maybe to serve half the guests or so, then have some other options? We did a 1 tier cutting cake for pictures then a dessert table.

We did a cutting cake, then cookies, cupcakes, brownies, and mini pies!Dessert table... 1

We're having both a 2-tier cake and a dessert table for 40 guests. Me and FMIL particularly have a sweet tooth plus we have 7 kids so I don't think it'll go to waste. You could do a smaller cake, perhaps a 2 or 3 tier, if you're afraid you'll have to many sweets. But in my opinion, you can never have enough

My baker is baking a 3 tier cake for my guests and the 4th tier is for us to keep. The more I think about it. It seems a lot of sweets. I remember from my engagement party. I had so much sweets left over. Perhaps lighter desserts like mousses and pudding shots and fruity things. Or I’ll just have a donut wall and call it a day.

I am having a dessert table that will double as my favor table for guests to choose what they would like. My cake will be at most 3 tiers but the least will be 2. I'm also debating a one tier cake with the remaining 4 or 5 tiers being cupcakes. Not sure on that as of yet.
