Dessert table??

Hello WeddingWire,

My FH and I want to have mini cupcakes at the wedding for desserts instead of cake. Instead of hiring a bakery to make all of the cupcakes, we wanted to buy generic, plain cupcakes from the grocery store and decorate them ourselves. Because our wedding will be "Night Sky" themed, we were planning on purchasing star-shaped sprinkles and putting them on our cupcakes. When do you think would be best to sprinkle the stars and and when would be the best time to bring them out?

Should the cupcakes stay out next to the buffet or should they be brought out? I'm a little concerned that if I sprinkle the stars on too early, the colors will start melting onto the icing.

If you're talking about the little colored candy stars you find in the baking aisle at the store (like rainbow sprinkles), I don't think those melt very easily, so you could add them anytime that day, and they should be fine.
As for whether they should sit next to the buffet, or be brought out later, I think depends a lot on your venue. Is it mostly outdoors? Are you in a really hot area? If so, you'll need to worry more about the frosting melting than the sprinkles. In that case I would see if you can keep them inside your venue (if they have a kitchen), and bring them out closer to the end of the dinner service.

The wedding is all indoors in October in the East Coast.

Hey Hera!
Since your wedding is indoors and having your cupcakes out will not have an effect on them, do you think there is space in your venue to set up a dessert table beside your buffet table? It totally depends on what you feel will work better for your own venue.
If you decide to have them brought out after the meal, will there be someone to bring them out?
