Dessert table or cake only

Jaimie, on September 18, 2021 at 12:30 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 1 16
We’re having a fall wedding and I thought a medium sized cake and an assortment of mini desserts would be cute like mini pies, cookies, cake pops. Or should I just do cake?

I personally would choose the dessert table over just the cake. It gives guests more options to choose from. However, it's not a necessity!

That’s what I was thinking! Not everyone likes cake. My mom thinks it’s unnecessary to do both but I think I’m definitely leaning towards the dessert table. Would you add candy or no candy? I’m going to have cute take home boxes so guests can take some treats home.

Hi ! At my wedding, people actually prefered little desserts than the wedding cake, as there was a lot of different things...

Personally I love cake (or at least cupcakes)! But a dessert table is quite popular. Just don’t get too much or you’ll have a LOT of leftovers. A small cake and maybe 1-2 desserts?
Dessert table or cake only 1

We're doing a fall wedding too, and my fiance is not too big on cake.. so we are doing pumpkin and apple pies (our "cake cutting" will be done with a pumpkin pie, his favorite lol 😂), then most likely a s'mores bar for a fun option because we will have a fire pit lit 🙂

I would go with a dessert table too. At weddings I've been to, a lot of guests don't eat the cake or they leave before it's served, so you could be wasting $$. Better to give guests a few options. You can still choose to have a small cutting cake for you and your FH 😊

There's more variety in the dessert table, so more guests will be happy. Though I would choose both.

I never turn down cake unless it’s dry like the naked cakes tend to be. The dessert table sounds fun. Make sure you have enough of each for everyone to get at least one of each thing if they choose.

But if you are serving cake, you don’t need the cake pops because they are the same thing. Same if you had cupcakes. But the pies and cookies sound great

If it's in your budget then why not? You really could have an entire treat table! Of course that's extra money that could be used elsewhere though.

I'm having a fall wedding too with different options for desserts. We will have a 2 tier cake with donuts, tartlets, and cookies. With the combination of desserts, it will be enough to serve everyone. I had a friend that got married years ago, and she served pies. As a guest, pies were different, but I liked the change from expecting cake.

We have a cake that will serve about 20 servings more than our guest count (for anyone who wants a second slice), and also cookies for people who don’t like cake

Your mom is right that it's unnecessary. But that doesn't mean you can't do it! Either cake or a dessert table is sufficient to properly host but if you want and can afford both, then it's a nice to have. Candy with boxes could take the place of favors and people usually like consumable over something with your name and wedding date on it.

We did both for our wedding. We had desserts and cake but we didn't have a huge cake either - just two tiers in small round shapes. I like the idea of both. Smiley smile
