Dessert table instead - do we still have a cake cutting ceremony? o

Sarah, on April 9, 2020 at 9:22 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 16
Hi all,
We’re opting for a dessert table with sweets made by family members. Do we still have a little cake and a cake cutting ceremony for us, for fun? I’m getting mixed reviews. My sister says it would be odd, my mom says it would still be fun, etc.

Any thoughts are appreciated!

My sister did this! They had a candy station and they just got a small cake for them to cut, it in my opinion was pretty cool

We had a dessert table and a small 3-tier cake to cut into. However, we did have a “kitchen cake” for our guests. So basically the same cake flavors as our cake except it wasn’t decorated.

I’ve been to weddings where the couple cut the cake but didn’t serve any to the guests. It does cause a bit of confusion where guests thought they would get some. Lol

She didn’t have a cake served at all? Just want to make sure.

No she did not! The candy bar was the dessert portion! It was a hit. Everyone got something they liked

It depends on if it’s important to you or not. I do think that if you have cake for yourselves, it should also be an option for guests as well.

We are having a dessert table with a small cake (1 tier if possible). We are planning to cut the cake and have a champagne toast.

We had a cake but didn’t cut it. We used that opportunity to thank our guests and then said I wouldn’t be cutting the cake because I didn’t want to 🤷🏼‍♀️

I went to a wedding a couple of years ago where the bride and groom cut a small cake but there was no cake served, just a dessert table with an assortment of other sweets, and many of the guests were pretty confused about when the cake would be served...I'd recommend serving at least a sheet cake (which is very budget-friendly!) if you want to have a cake cutting

Do you and your s/o want to do one? If so, do it! If not, don’t! If you do, you can just use one of your desserts or a cupcake if you’re having those. That way, you’re not spending more for anything additional.

We did a dessert table and didn’t do a cake cutting but cutting a cake wasn’t important to us. If it’s important to you then do it!

We plan on a small wedding cake for cake cutting (2 tier from local bakery band under $100) and then dessert that will include cake or cupcakes, brownies, cookies (for kids). I find nothing odd about it. If I was a guest all I would think was yum-desert!

If you're going to cut a small cake, then cake should be one of the options at the dessert table.

People often get sheet cake in the same flavors, so guests can have that, without having the expense of a tiered cake.

We did a small, 2 tier cake, as well as a full dessert bar. That gave us a cake for cutting, as well as cake for a dessert option.

If you're not having a cake to feed everyone, then skip the cake cutting ceremony. Alot of people don't even pay attention to it.
